Smith: Once step closer to freedom.
Former state Senator Jeff Smith has been released from federal prison in Kentucky and into a halfway house. Smith was sentenced to 12 months in prison last November after admitting he lied to federal investigators over mailers his campaign sent out in 2004 when he was running for U.S. Congress.

The Bureau of Prisons website suggests that Smith is now in St. Louis. His new mailing address, according to the website, is 1222 Spruce St. in downtown St. Louis. Smith began serving his 12-month sentence on January 5 and is expected to be released early from custody on November 18.
