Jonathon Jones: Shot Dead, Two Friends Wounded in Washington Park Home Invasion

Three men were shot -- one fatally -- early this morning in Washington Park.

Police arrived at a house on the 1300 block of N 51st Street at 12:42 a.m. and found that 25-year-old Jonathon Jones had become the village's third homicide of 2010.

Jermaine Lloyd and Orlando Lang, both 25, were also wounded when an unidentified gunman entered the residence and opened fire.

The Belleville News-Democrat has the details:
A fourth person in the house was not hurt. Police interviewed that person but have not been able to establish a motive or determine whether the shooter knew the victims.

[Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Dave] Wasmuth said the shooter was inside the house.

Multiple shell casings were found but no weapon. All three victims were from the metro-east but police would not be more specific.

And then read this (tangentially) related article about how public officials on the Illinois side of the Mississippi are trying to "establish a new brand" for the metro east. Apparently after 75-plus years of heinous crime and pollution it's time for an image makeover.
