More Sewage Flows into Mississippi River South of St. Louis

The first overflow occurred back in June when flood waters from the Mississippi caused a lift station to fail releasing 4.6 milllion gallons of untreated sewage into the river per day.
Now the Missouri Department of Natural Resources reports that on Tuesday the Metropolitan Sewer District notified it of another overflow.
Once again Mississippi flood waters had overpowered a lift station near Jefferson Barracks resulting in the direct release of the wastewater at an estimated rate of 1,500 gallons per minute. The sewage poured into Martigney Creek, and from there into the Mississippi River.
Hundreds of fish have been killed as a result of the leak, which was reportedly fixed yesterday afternoon.
