American Mustache Institute Postpones 'Stache Bash; Grown-Up Excuses Cited

John Oates rings in last year's Stache Bash.
If you -- like me -- have already begun grooming your facial hair for the American Mustache Institute's annual 'Stache Bash, you may be wearing that lip sweater for awhile.

Daily RFT
recently caught up with one of AMI's founders Aaron Perlut (a.k.a. Dr. Abraham Jonas Froman) who tells us the institute's organizers have been too busy with their real jobs to spend much time organizing this year's party. (Last year's Stache Bash could be hard to beat, after Hall and Oates frontman John Oates regrew his famous mustache for a concert he played at the annual October soiree.)

As profiled in Riverfront Times a couple years back, Perlut and other members of AMI were working for the downtown public-relations firm Fleishman-Hillard when they launched the mustache institute back in 2007. From Fleishman, Perlut and fellow AMI founders Dan Callahan and Brian Cross, launched their own start-up -- Elasticity -- within the PR agency Osborn Barr. This month they took Elasticity independent, setting up a new office on Lucas Avenue.

"We've been pretty busy," confesses Perlut.

Yes, but dammit, what about Stache Bash?

Look for something in November, he says, possibly as a partnership with the mustache-growing charity, Movember.

Now, the good news for you mustache-challenged men (and ladies): You have at least 30 more days to get growing.
