Good grief, Charles Brown. This isn't how life works in the Peanuts comic strip. In that pleasant world, the worst thing to happen to ol' Charlie is when Lucy pulls the football just as he's about to kick it.

Charles Brown Jr. of Jefferson County didn't live such a life. His was pockmarked with multiple run-ins with the law and it ended Friday when the 41-year-old allegedly tried to break into Justice Auto Sales in Barnhart. The owner of the store happened to be in the building at the time and -- true to the name on the sign outside -- delivered a bit of "justice" when he heard glass breaking.

The Jefferson County sheriff's office reports that the owner discovered Brown standing in the entrance way of his store around 2 a.m. and fired two shots from his .357 Magnum handgun. Brown, of Barnhart, fled the building and was found dead just a few yards away.

According to authorities, the vehicle Brown drove to the Justice Auto Sales had been taken during a burglary at another used car store in Barnhart. The sheriff's department also suspects that Brown may have committed a recent armed robbery in the 2600 block of Lemay Ferry  in St Louis County.

Last October Brown was charged with felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor charges of theft and assault, according to court records.
