The American Cancer Society is out with a survey of St. Charles County voters. According to its numbers, 68 percent of voters in the county would support a smoking ban for bars, restaurants and casinos.

Of those polled, 58 percent said they would "strongly" support such a measure. Lake Saint Louis in St. Charles County approved a smoking ban earlier this year that goes into effect October 1.

Supporters of a ban for the entire county hope the poll will persuade the St. Charles County Council to approve a county-wide wide election on the issue in April. Smoking bans in St. Louis County and St. Louis go into effect January 1.
