Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst is once again attempting to clean up the image of his town's notoriously seedy bars and taverns.

Hoechst tells KMOV Channel 4 that next week he'll sit down with bar owners to outline new disciplinary action should their taverns continue to violate liquor laws. The bars have come under fire lately for police calls regarding nudity, fights and gunshots in or outside their establishments.

Hoechst says that under new regulations, bar owners found in violation of liquor laws will get a warning after a first violation, a two-day suspension of their liquor license following a second infraction and have their license revoked upon a third violation.

"What I'm trying to do is fire a shot across the bow to these tavern owners telling them we're not going to tolerate any shenanigans," Hoescht tells KMOV.
