Breaking news coming from the Post-Dispatch via a brief written statement from Saint Louis University: Willie Reed and Kwamain Mitchell -- the starting center and point guard on the Billiken basketball team --- are "currently not enrolled at the University."

Citing privacy laws, that's all the university is saying. However, interestingly enough, earlier this year, KSDK reported on an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a dorm on the SLU campus last spring. In that incident, a 20-year-old female student said she was attacked by two members of the basketball team. Prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to file charges, but at the time, SLU said the players -- whose names were not made public -- would be punished.

It's unclear if Reed and Mitchell's absence is related to that incident, but there is no doubt that they will be sorely missed by head coach Rick Majerus when the season starts; Reed and Mitchell were the team's two leading scorers last season.

Over at billikens.com, an online forum for fans that is not affiliated with the University, there are already some pretty distraught reactions to the news. To give you an idea of how the diehards are taking it, here's the video one fan shared:
