Ed Martin Alleging Voting Irregularities; Still Not Conceding Defeat

Ed (s)Martin: Not ready to accept sting of defeat.
The unofficial results have Republican Ed Martin losing to Russ Carnahan by a margin of 4,418 votes in the race to represent Missouri's Third Congressional District in Washington D.C.

Carnahan has 48.9 percent of the vote compared to Martin's 46.7 percent. As Congressional Quarterly reports this morning, because Carnahan is ahead by more than one percentage point, Martin can't call for a recount.

He can, however, find other ways to throw the vote into question. And that's just what Martin is doing.

In a message to supporters, Martin says three glaring factors stood out in yesterday's vote.
"The Secretary of State's office, Robin Carnahan, reported irregularities early in the day. A newly appointed St. Louis City Board of Elections Democratic Chairwoman, Eileen McCann, hired a security company with close ties to Carnahan. Then just before midnight seven precincts in the city delivered an astonishing (and unbelievable) amount of votes."
At this juncture, it's unclear what exactly Martin plans to make of his complaints nor has he released any further details. Martin has a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. today. A call to his campaign was not immediately returned.

Update 3:33 p.m.: Even Missouri's right-wing lieutenant governor is questioning Martin's claims of voting flaws.
