Because we couldn't find an image of Francis Slay holding firewood.
That's right. Beginning  today -- and lasting until supplies run out -- the St. Louis Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry is offering free wood to city residents.

The stash comes from tree removal at city parks and is available now through March on the lower parking lot of the Muny Opera in Forest Park.

In a release yesterday, the city reminds you that the wood is only for city residents and not intended for commercial uses. Oh, and the quantity and quality of supplies is not guaranteed.

Still, free wood!? Offers like that don't come around too often!
