Protesting Peabody Energy: Not a coal black tie affair.
You know how The Razzies are the anti-Oscars? They're the "awards" that "salute the worst that Hollywood has to offer" each year? Well, that's kind of what a group of climate change protesters have planned this afternoon in downtown St. Louis.

Around noon today, members of the group Repower Missouri and "dozens of St. Louis area residents" will gather in front of Peabody Energy's offices on Market Street to hand out the "Snake Oil Award for Public Deception."

In a press release sent out earlier this morning, Repower Missouri writes that the faux-award will single out the "worst of the worst" of the "big oil and coal companies [that] have spent a shocking amount of money on lobbying, campaign donations and advertising to try and stop America from moving away from dirty, dangerous fuels."

Peabody is the world's largest private-sector coal company, making them the preferred target of green energy activists. Earlier this year, students disrupted a keynote speech by Peabody CEO Greg Boyce at Washington University's "Symposium for Global Energy Future by stripping off their clothes and holding up signs with messages like "Coal Kills."

This time around, the awards ceremony/demonstration will include a "red carpet covered with coal dust" and an "emcee presenting awards to costumed polluters" in addition to the regular banners and signs.
