Quiz: How Many Deer Were Killed in Missouri This Weekend?

Former Missouri politician Harry Truman would've been so proud.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was one of thousands of Show-Me-State hunters to get themselves a deer during the start of the season this weekend. According to the governor's office, Nixon bagged an eight-point buck near Kahoka (in the far northeastern corner of the state) using a Sierra bullet made right here in Missourah.

We can only hope that he uttered Harry Truman's famous "the buck stops here" quote before pulling the trigger. (Nixon, btw, donated the meat from his deer to the Share the Harvest program that provides venison to the needy and encourages other hunters to do the same.)

In related news, the Department of Conservation announced today that harvest numbers were up 14 percent this weekend compared to the opening weekend of the 2009 deer season. So, just how many deer were killed this past weekend in Missouri? Was it...

A. 19,356
B. 8,992
C. 97,865
D. 53,384

Answer after the jump...

If you guessed "C" you're a winner!

That's right, on Saturday and Sunday Missouri hunters killed nearly 100,000 deer in the state.

To put that figure in perspective -- using human populations -- it was as if the entire city of Columbia were wiped out over the weekend.
