Barbara Fraser Gains Seven Votes in Recount, Still 126 Votes Shy of Victory
On December 2, Democrat Babara Fraser asked for a recount after losing in November to Republican John Lamping by a margin of 0.3 percent (or 133 votes). Today the Secretary of State's office certified the recount results for the mid-St. Louis County district.
The good news for Fraser? She picked up seven votes. The bad news, she's still short 126 votes. The new tally has Lamping with 30,619 votes and Barbara Fraser with 30,493.
Following the November 2 election, a voting-right group called Advancement Project challenged the Lamping-Fraser results on charges that many Washington University students were turned away at the polls. Under election rules, Fraser could still file a claim with the St. Louis County Board of Elections contesting the election due to voting irregularities. She has until the December 30 to do so.
The election board tells Daily RFT today that they have no record of Fraser having yet made such a request. Fraser could not be reached immediately for comment.
