Bill Stouffer: Ass Clown of the Week

• Katie, I did proof read my comment before posting. Let me say this again in a different way that may make it a little more clear. The trumped up bill that HSUS foisted over on Missouri in the last election will not improve conditions for dogs in Missouri because it doesn't include a requirement for full funding of the MDA inspection program. However, it does include a requirement for more inspections of kennels that are already being inspected. That is going to divert resources away from locating un-registered kennels that are not complying. HSUS only wrote the bill to get publicity and donations. As to your remark about my right to comment only if I have experience "the suffering" I did so several years back. However, it wasn't on purchased dogs. It was on two puppies that I adopted from a local animal shelter. Both puppies contracted distemper while in the custody of the shelter. But the animal shelter manager didn't tell me they had an on-going distemper problem. After having them for just a couple of weeks (which turned out to be the incubation period), both dogs broke with symptoms of matted eyes, diareha, fever and nervous system tremors. They couldn't eat and could barely drink. At the outset my vet said there was little hope. He also told me the animal shelter wasn't vacinating as it should and most of the dogs that went there came out mortally sick. The vet told me if I want a dog, to find a reputable breeder that had a health program and buy a put. That way I wouldn't incurr fees and still not have a dog at the end of it all. I spent a week caring for the pups, but it became obvious they were not going to improve and were suffering more each day. So I had to take them back to the vet so he could put them to sleep and end their misery. So, since I too have suffered the loss of pets, is it okay with you if I comment?

• Thom Did you reread your post before you hit the submit button? You admitted our state does not have "sufficient funding" to police these cruelty mills. Until you have experienced the suffering of a animal purchased from these breeders, you have no right to comment. Maybe your Mr. Stouffer would like to cut me a check for $15,000. in vet bills.

• The lawyers at HSUS wrote a flawed bill, knowing it would take legislation or litigation to fix the mess they left. That keeps the organization's name in the news and fuels their fundraising factory. The sad thing is, Missouri already had one of the toughest kennel laws in the U.S. Sufficient food, water, cleanliness and vet care was already on the books in Missouri. Unfortunately the uniformed urban population bought into the lies of HSUS. The root of the problem is a lack of sufficient funding so that the Missouri Department of Agriculture can operate the inspection program. The farcical, HSUS orchestrated "Puppy Mill Creulety Prevention Act" will make things worse because it diverts inspection resources to kennels that have clean records. The real ass-clowns here? Wayne Pacelle at HSUS and the editors of RFT for spreading mis-information.

• I believe the people's vote should stand. Missouri is noted in the United States for it's promotion of animal cruelty.
