Last summer, dozens of workers from Express Scripts, Inc's Bensalem, Pennsylvania facility bused to the company's St. Louis headquarters to protest the threat of their branch's closure. The SEIU, St. Louis Area Workers Rights Board and Missouri Jobs for Justice, among other groups, supported the workers, and, good news: They won!

In October, the workers went to Washington, D.C. to plead their case on the Hill, to no avail. Just days later, Express Scripts announced the facility's impending closure

This week, however, St. Louis WRB agreed to hold an investigative hearing about the ESI case. Instead of attending the hearing, ESI CEO George Paz reopened negotiations and switched the layoffs to another plant, thereby saving the 400 jobs the outspoken Bensalem plant would have shed, had it closed.

"This settlement will keep hundreds of good jobs here in Bensalem, and make sure anyone who gets laid off will be able to provide for their families in this harsh economy," says Linda Chan, a pharmacy tech and a member of the SEIU Healthcare bargaining committee, in a press release.

Express Scripts has not responded to Daily RFT's request for comment.
