The organization has begun installing billboards at six locations entering the state capital with the message: Missouri voters have spoken. Will you listen?
The billboards come in response to lawmakers who say they plan to overturn Proposition B.
Passed in November with 52 percent of Missourians voting in its favor, Proposition B places strict new restrictions on dog breeding facilities in Missouri where lax oversight has earned the state the title of Puppymill Capital of America.
"Missouri's elected officials should respect the will of the people," said Barbara Schmitz, campaign director of Missourians for the Protection of Dogs, in a press release today. "Subverting the judgment of voters is anti-democratic. Our system is built on majority rule, and a majority of Missouri favored Prop B. The voters acted precisely because the legislature has failed to stop puppy mill abuses."
