The Secretary of State's office is conducting an official recount of last month's election for the Missouri Senate -- District 24.

Republican John Lamping won the election to represent mid- St. Louis County by just 133 votes out of a total of 61,091 cast. That's a victory margin of 0.3 percent.

Laura Egerdal, spokeswoman for the secretary of state's office, tells the Associated Press that Fraser still faces an uphill battle. The biggest change from recent state Senate recounts was just six votes.

Last month the group Advancement Project challenged the District 24 election on charges that many Washington University students were turned away at the polls. It's unclear how -- if at all -- that complaint might impact the recount. Daily RFT has a couple calls out on that matter.

Update 11 a.m. Laura Egerdal with the secretary of state's office tells Daily RFT that at this point Fraser has only filed for a recount and did so two days after the votes were officially certified on November 30. Fraser also has the option of contesting the election due to voter irregularities, but has not yet done so. She has 30 days following certification to make such a request.

Over the past month Fraser has picked up some 34 votes thanks to provisional ballots -- from those whose name did not appear on election rolls but have since been certified as valid voters. Initial reports had Fraser losing by 167 votes, however, those provisional ballots boosted the margin of her loss to 133 votes.
