UPDATE: Nineteen-year-old Trenton Pinckard of Glen Carbon, Illinois, turned himself into police.

He was the person driving the black Chevrolet truck that ran over the flag girl. Pinckard was being held on a $50,000 bond for the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident. The driver of the Mitsubishi Eclipse is still wanted.

Original story posted Tuesday at 9:23 a.m.:

A 17-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was run over Sunday night in an illegal street race north of Laclede Landing at Cass and Collins streets (below).

The victim was reportedly serving as the "flag girl" starting a race between a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Chevrolet truck when she was hit. A witness tells the Post-Dispatch that the Mitsubishi lost control while peeling out and struck the teen, knocking her beneath the truck which then ran her over. Both vehicles then left the scene.

The Mitsubishi was missing a rear bumper. The truck was described as black with chrome wheels and Illinois plates. Police said they'd arrested one man on Monday.

Street racing in north St. Louis is hardly an unusual phenomenon. Videos like the one below abound on the Internet...
