Comment of the Day: Fire Chad Garrison

Categories: Blowback
Today's comment from irate reader/lover of ferrets Karen Lee Copen, who can't believe that our Ass Clown of the Week title went to someone other than uber-blogger Chad Garrison.

As Copen writes in response to a post declaring Steve Spagnuolo the winner of this week's honor,

Chad Garrison should have won for his report on the ferret incident, and misuse of copyrighted photographs in order to illustrate his ridiculous article. I can't believe the Riverfront Times can still employs someone who absolutely lies about the news without having all of the facts. I also can't believe the picture of the ferret with the mask and chainsaw is still up as it belongs to the Pepsi corporation. You need to fire Chad Garrison.

What do you think, dear readers? Should pissing off ferret lovers be a firing offense? Or should we give Chad a raise for calling like he sees it -- and letting the rodent droppings fall where they may?

While Chad was supposedly just reporting on events that supposedly actually occurred, his style was straight out of the National Enquirer. It seems obvious he was just going for sensationalism rather than attempting to write an article for intelligent adults. Perhaps a serious news organization would have confirmed, at the minimum, the plausability of the story. An actual journalist interested in reporting rather than sensationalism might have contacted an expert or two to see if the events were even possible or, as implausible as this may be, get a quote for their article. The 'investigation' for this article was non-existent. It was pure, lazy, uneducated, lowest common denominator, sensationalism. If you want your 'paper' to be taken seriously, fire his ass or relegate him to the classifieds. And, while we're at it, whatever editor pissed away his dignity by allowing this dribble into print probably also deserves a swfit kick in the ass. You guys really dropped the ball on this one. You look like a bunch of Frat Boys.

So there is no confusion...

I hate ferrets. I also hate babies.

And I quote ... "Or should we give Chad a raise for calling like he sees it -- and letting the rodent droppings fall where they may?"

Shows your absolute ignorance about ferrets, since they are members of the mustelid family and have NOTHING to do with rodents, apart from eating them.

His blog is misnamed - should be called the Riverfront Times RAG.

Chad does an admirable job of drawing out the hyper sensitive, obviously. My God, not using a copyrighted image (with citation), anything but that. He has his gaffes, but this isn't the Times or Tribune, either.

I say fire him! First of all, he passes off misinformation as news. Secondly, he plagerizes. Thirdly, he used a copyrighted image for the article. Fourthly, he doesn't know anything about what he's writing about. Get rid of this liar!

I'm surprised the FBI hasn't detained him up and given him a full cavity search for use of a copyrighted image. That's borderline treason.

Chad does real journalism. I stop by here everyday to check out what stories he has taken on that day. I say give him a raise. Forget about trying to make ferret lovers happy.

If that's the case, Bill Hannegan, you're probably the most misinformed person around.
