McCaskill on Giffords Shooting: 'I'm Mad'

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords
Sen. Claire McCaskill released a statement through a spokeswoman about fellow female Congress member Rep. Gabriell Giffords, who was shot at a constituent event in her district in Arizona yesterday.

Find the statement behind the cut, but we think McCaskill's succinct tweet from Saturday afternoon accurately sums up how we're all feeling after the shocking shooting:

I feel sick to my stomach. Praying.

Here's McCaskill's prepared statement, sent by her spokeswoman Saturday:

I pray for Rep. Giffords, the other victims, and their families. I'm mad and deeply saddened that this violence is an attack not just against these innocent people, but also does real damage to all things good about our country and our democracy. And no criminal punishment will be able to fix it.

Oh, and of course, don't forget Sarah Palin's crosshairs graphic and her tweet: Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!"

Mike you are right on. I guess they will try to distance themselves from all the hate they where spreading around, you know the tea party and republicans. It's funny that of all the republicans congressman in Arizona he picked a Democrat to kill. I guess palin got her wish.

Let us not forget that Giffords' opponent, tea partier Jesse Kelly, held a $50 a head fund raiser which was billed with the line "Get on Target for Victory in November. Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly."
