St. Louis Catholic Blogger Upset (Again) With Archdiocese Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

• It's tempting to assume that the archdiocesan struggle with St. Stan's is somehow related to the church's on-going clergy sex abuse and cover up crisis. But there's no evidence of this whatsoever. . . • It's this crap that motivated my brother to become an agnostic. To the blogger who is bitching: LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS! If the catholic church keeps this up, I might just go Wicca. (Not that I actually believe in that, but the chick who believe in that stuff must put out, right? ^_^ ) So far there is a lot of crap that the Catholic Church has done who probably will motivate god to stop by for just a few seconds to put a boot up someones ass. Here is just a short list of greviances that I've come up with about the Catholic Church. 1. They were all right with the Nazis picking up the Jews; Rome did nothing to stop it because, well, Rome is in ITALY! (There's a lot of old people at the Carnegie Deli still bitter about that.) 2. CARDINAL Burke. (Cloak and Dagger. Robbed Peter (St. Louis Archdiocese, esp. St. Stans) to Pay Paul (SNAP, rape victims, people the Church pissed off.) 3. Whatever non-al-Qaeda related thing that is motivated European Islamic Immigrants trying to kill the Pope. (There must be some reason the Islamic immigrants want to kill the Pope. You don't see illegal immigrants from Mexico trying to kill the President of the United States.) 4. "Thou shall not fap, but thou shall let Father Dick touch little boys." There's your problem right there. 5. "Abortion is murder, but we're having scramble eggs with our pancake breakfast and church social this Sunday!" 6. KillJoy FM (CLASSIC 99 FOREVER!) 7. 10 different networks for Christian Programming and they all SUCK and still show off infomercials the conartists Peter Popoff and Joyce Meyer. 8. It was Eve's Fault! (I confess women, men are stupid. We goofed up!) 9. Kirk Cameron (not-Catholic, but still Christian.) 10. The uptight asshole who hates everyone who is named Martin or Luther. Even more so if they have both. (Great, another Glenn Beck. What's next? Is he going to demand the Pope produce documentation that says he wasn't a Nazi?) 11. No pedophile priest have yet been publicly defrocked or excommunicated. At least one priest in our area and his congregation get excommunicated because they don't want to sell their church. (Imagine if Mr. Potter was an Archbishop excommunicated George Bailey right about the time Clarence needed to save George from killing himself.) 12. Spazzed out over movies like Dogma and Stigmatta and books like The DaVinci Code. (Is this the Christian Church or the Church of Scientology?) 13. Was it necessary to have the Parochial Students have Confirnation Separate from the PSR students? (Most of the Parochial Students were in my Scout Troop. I guess we should have had two Boy Scout Troops too.)

• Some people frighten me. To say that a man who was not a Catholic should not be honored. If memory serves me, I don't think Jesus was a Catholic either, but we love, worship and honor him. I think it’s commendable that Dr. Martin L. King’s life is being celebrated. I think he is one of the greatest Americans since the founding of our country. I especially like the idea that his spiritual relevance is being spotlighted. He transformed our society from one permeated with racism to one in which most people regardless of their race or culture can participate. I once met Dr. King when I was a teenager. A local supermarket chain refused to hire black teens as bag boys and I was one of the teenagers who was not allowed to work. Dr. King and his organization SCLC led a protest/picket campaign. Dr. King spoke at a local theatre one night and I got to meet him one on one! I’ll remember the experience and what he told me forever. I tell of this chance meeting with one of the greatest heroes in American culture, in my book, “Talking Penny.”

• That was classy. You should really keep your opinions to things that you (purport) to know about, like public policy.

• yeah, he f*cked around on his wife but who really cares, right?

• I don't understand why devoting one mass a year to a baptist is a big deal. Every other mass is devoted to a jew.

• You miss the point. This man is NOT that Martin Luther. Besides, isn't EVERYONE entitled to forgiveness?

• Martin Luther King Jr. wasn't a pederast.

• It's a little understandable as to why people do not like Martin Luther. He began the reformation, and while he had a few good points, (the whole greedy-money issue), he directly attacked several of the sacraments, such as Confession and the Mass, which have always been part of the Core of Catholicism. Martin Luther is, neeedless to say, not very popular because of the trend he started througout history, and a lot of anti-catholic sentiment.

• I think it's perfectly acceptable. Of course he had sinful qualities. Don't we all? and B, just because he was named after Martin Luther, doesn't mean he's bad. He's not to blame for ML's mistake. Also, the Church in America has long been too passive in the slave/black rights issue, even though the Catholic Church (in Rome) specifically stated that slavery was against Church teachings. It's about time we start supporting African Americans. Ps, I'm white, and have many black freinds who would agree with me, as well as several white ones.

• St. Louis Catholic is a PRIVATE blog that doesn't speak on behalf of the Archdiocese of St. Louis or the Roman Catholic Church as a whole. Let's remember that when considering this issue.

• The arguments don't hold water: "certain sinful behaviors in his personal life" that shouldn't be overlooked." But Jesus preaches forgiveness, accepts sinners in to 'Heaven' everyday. The Catholic Church overlooks 'certain sinful behaviors' of their own priests - and parishioners for that matter as well. So I guess, if your Catholic it's all good? Anyone else should fuck off? "Moreover, how can Catholics celebrate anyone who is named after Martin Luther, the found of the Protestant Reformation?" He didn't pick his name! And so what? Certainly there are Catholics with the name 'Martin Luther'... are they not allowed in the Church? How judgmental - they want to exclude someone based on their name alone? A name they didn't even choose? Solid reasoning there.
