YouTube Video: St. Louis Cop Shown Beating Suspect

Update 3:20 p.m. We've found another video (below) on YouTube that should still play.

Update 2:44 p.m. YouTube has removed the video stating it violates the company's policy of showing "shocking and disgusting content."

Never mind that if you search YouTube for terms such as "knock out, street fight, brawl, etc." you can treat yourself to a wide array of shocking and disgusting footage. The site even hosts a video called Broken Leg Compilation. But when it comes to footage of a police officer beating an unarmed suspect, that's too violent for YouTube? We have a request for comment in with YouTube. Back at ya when -- if -- we hear anything.

Original post follows...

This video just in via YouTube showing a St. Louis police officer beating a suspect at the Shell gas station at I-55 and Arsenal around 2:30 a.m. January 1.

KTVI Fox 2 reports that the police have released the following statement:

"We were first made aware of the video this morning and while all of the circumstances of the incident are not known, what is seen on the video is extremely disturbing to us. Force is to be used only when absolutely necessary and this department takes the use of force very seriously. No one has a filed a complaint regarding this incident, however the department is launching an Internal Affairs investigation immediately and we would urge those involved in the incident to please come forward and relay their eyewitness accounts to the Internal Affairs investigators. We are also making efforts to identify the officer involved who, once identified, will immediately be assigned to administrative duty pending the results of the investigation."

The police KNOW what officer was there. As long as they know the time and place of when it happened, they'd know what officer responded. They're covering for each other. It's sickening.

Quote from St. Louis Today website (http://www.stltoday.com/news/l...

"Blaine Thompson, 21, of south St. Louis County, said he was the designated driver for the man who was beaten and two friends. He would not identify his friends but said they were cooperating with the police investigation.

Thompson said Ries had been justified to "take action." As for the use of force, he said, "It's not really my call."

He agreed with Platke that the man who was beaten had been grabbing the officer's legs. He declined to say more, saying officers had asked him not to speak to the media."

It's time the people stand up and stop paying taxes to pay these dirty, abusive cops to enslave and torture the very people that pay their wages for protection! FIRE THEM! There is NO Excuse for their behavior, they are mentally ill bullies. They are the same way in Oklahoma City so don't expect to go there and get better treatment. They beat you on the walk ways and in the jail house. I took pictures of my son after he had simply asked a couple of cops to stop beating a man for simply not being able to walk. They left that guy and beat up my son! I hate them, dispise them, hope somewhere along the line someone gives them the same treatment. They are not good people, they are criminals behind badges! As bad as the gangs! They are a gang also.

I hope the victims sues the crap out of Mr. Reis and the Shell station owner. Mr. Reis has been sued previously for doing the same damn thing. This is really unprofessional even if the guy was moonlighting as a security cop. The weird part is that he is moonlighting, but the sub station is inside the Shell station. They keep saying the victim was drunk, but can they prove that?

This is what it looks like to me...

The people start filming because the guy in the car is being a prick...he finally tells the cop to shut up, which is where the video starts. The cop thinks, ok, I'm getting nowhere with this guy, so he tries to pull the guy out of the car. The guy resists, and when the cops finally gets him to move he takes a dive at the cops feet and holds on. Look at the cop try to move, he can't because the guy is obviously holding on to his feet...for reasons I can't explain. The guys standing around aren't doing anything because they realize he's being a douchebag. The guy holds tight so the cop pulls out his club and starts beating on the guys legs and ass. Notice where the cop is swinging, and where the dudes head is (between the cops legs). It looks like the cop is beating the guy silly, but he's hitting the meatiest part of the dudes entire body. The guy still won't let go... So at this point, the cop has to think, this guy has me, I'm surrounded by 3 of his buddies, who you'll notice kind of look embarrassed and not terribly shocked, I better do something now. So he maces him, and the guy finally lets go. I'm guessing this cop will get a slap on the wrist, if that. Rightfully so.

Nice friends this guy has just watching. Cop or not if he was wailing on one of my buddies like that for no reason that cop would be the one on the ground.

The person being beaten should have the opportunity to beat the cop with the same nightstick the same number of times with the office restrained.

What a fucking cop. We pay our tax dollars to these assholes to protect us not to beat the fuck out of us when we tell them to shut up... If I were that kid I'd fucking throw a tantrum and take his stick away and fucking hit him back with it. (self defense) asshole fucking cop

after that, I'd sue the shit out of him and have him tested for drugs... I really hope this cop doesn't get away with this. What really bothers me is that none of his friends are doing anything about it... they aren't telling the cop to stop.... etc... this cop is a fucking idiot!excuse my french

We're only seeing one side of it. Why is the guy on the ground completely out of frame? Was he grabbing the officer or making some other aggressive move? Maybe it wasn't justified, maybe it was (at least to some degree), but I sure wish people would stop automatically assuming one way or the other. You weren't there. The video doesn't show the complete picture. Stay centered.

Why would his 3 buddies just stand there and watch him get beat up. If any of these guys had any balls they would of jumped in and protected they`re buddy. Bunch of pussies, they are.

Alright so for one you can't hear exactly what they guy said before the cop drags him out of the car. Two, the video doesn't start until he says something so you have NO idea was has been said or done up to this point by the idiot that was in the car. Three, you cant see from the video what the guy is doing on the ground. you cant tell if he might have his hands in his shirt, his pocket, his pants reaching for something etc... The video only shows one side and portrays the cop in a negative light. Instead of being an idiot and calling the cop or cops in general PIGS... why not wait and see what the hole story is.

Heres the truth "the department is launching an Internal Affairs investigation immediately" and it is in the trash can to be never looked at again. Police are criminals with uniforms. They can legally use steroids and harm citizens beating them half to death for standing up for your rights... if you video tape these criminal acts, it is a felony with a large prison sentence.

OK people if you do what the cops tells you to do, this would never happen.as you can see the suspect resisted, attacked the cop and was carrying a concealed rpg.at the station he was charged with attempting to exist in a public place

"takes a dive at the cops feet and holds on ..."

What is the kid holding with, his mouth? So, he bites the cop on the ankle. Is that what the beating was for? Cause you can see the kid is handcuffed behind his back.

"Hey! He's got a gun, let's try and beat him!" Maybe if you sneak up or get lucky but is it worth it? Just call the cops and call others to it, maybe notify gas station worker.

"take his stick away ...."

Has no one noticed that the kid getting the beating is handcuffed?

Steve

Okay so you explained the grabbing out of car. Now explain the beating! The cop hit him ALOT and it isn't like he hit him quickly, like he was in danger. Also the guy didn't appear to resist being dragged out of car and he definitely didn't get back up so why couldn't the cop just handcuff him and haul him to jail? Stay centered.

Anyways, you seem like a total winner. Assault a police officer and see how many years you get.

hole story... damn straight there are holes in the story... how bout the cop took the time to close the car door in the middle of the beat down so he wouldn't injure it... doesn't seem like he was in too much danger... I also found it funny that the gas station owner supported him... ya think?... his gas station is a police substation... it's not good for business to tell the truth...

Why is the guy in the car an idiot? hah

he should have strolled right up on the action and asked the cop(perp?) and the victim (perp?) how they felt about the beating... could have been an insightful interview

Release his name publicly, than wait for a gang or a person with a personal vendetta against abuse of power pop him. I'd be fine if I read about this person's death in the paper, and so would my father, who is a CHP officer, and wishes these types of police officers just got one shot in the head for abusing a power given to them to protect and serve.

yea you'd have to be nuts to "come forward" as an "eyewitness". For what purpose, to get put on their list of people to beat/harass?

wait! are we not allowed to carry concealed rpgs anymore?

if the cop wasn't an out of control piece of shit, this would never happen

SICKENING
SICKENING

I understand the idea of respect authority but just because you say "shutup" does not warrant being snatched out of a car. Just because you grab his feet does not warrant being peppered 6 inches from your face. If that cop, like most cops, in these types of situations would, do their job, restrain their personal emotions and assess the aggressive types this would not happen. I could understand if the guy refused to get out the car, removing him. I understand if the guy jumped out of the car and jumped up in the cops face and yelled, forcefully putting him on the ground. I understand if the guy was aggressive and attacking the cop mace and/or some other form of protection. But this is clearly an act of cops being F'n DICKS, taking advantage of their authoritative position and taking out their personal frustration.

If you go looking for a fight you can very easily find one. The same goes for cops. If you address the situation and approach it level headed you could avoid this. I hope he goes to jail and has his ass handed to him frequently.

That cops a pussy.

Pretty much, yea. The only way to curb these all too frequent assault by police is to have them investigated by civilians, not other cops. They protect their own at all costs, no matter what they do.
