CNN Adds Dana Loesch In Effort to Become More Political, Save Ratings

Dana Loesch: Does she have the right (wing) stuff to save CNN?
The original cable news network (a.k.a. CNN) announced yesterday that it has hired St. Louis Tea Party co-founder Dana Loesch for its 2012 election coverage.

The contract is the latest coup for Loesch, who -- in just a few years' time -- has rocketed from a local mommy blogger to a nationally recognized political pundit.

Stated Loesch in a CNN press release yesterday: "I'm excited to be working with CNN and am appreciative of their efforts to showcase diverse political thought on their airwaves. I look forward to the discussions."

Here at Daily RFT we're not privy to why and/or how CNN came upon hiring the uber-conservative Loesch, though she had become somewhat of a regular on Larry King Live. Also, it's worth noting that CNN is a network clearly on the decline, having lost huge market share to the more partisan programming of Fox News and MSNBC.

Last year was Fox News' best ever. The network ranked No. 4 in prime-time cable viewers -- behind only USA, ESPN and TNT. Meanwhile, MSNBC moved up the rankings to become the No. 28 most-watched cable network for prime time viewers last year and, in so doing, eclipsed No. 32 CNN for the first time. In fact, 2010 tied CNN's worst year ever for ratings.

Will Loesch help stem the tide? Who knows. We admit her face is easy on the eyes, even if her shrill arguments can be painful on the ears. Perhaps that lovely mug of hers will help keep readers from changing the channel?

Many of the commenters over at Andrew Breitbart's website, Big Journalism, for which Loesch serves as editor-in-chief, aren't convinced. They refer to CNN as the "Commie News Network" and say not even Loesch could make them tune in.

Dana Loesch has made a career out of being a political shrew.  She doesn't debate--she derides, interrupts and serves as an embarassment to other St. Louisans.  Helping to create a racist group like the Tea Parties is no great achievement--all that is required is a gathering of bigots, add some race baiting code phrases and a general sense of paranoia---shaken but not stirred--and you have a newly minted 'political contributor.'  In the sense of fair play--this is just my OPINION--and as such does not constitute slander, libel or defamation of character.  Sorry Dana, Andrew B--this roadrunner's a little too fast for you.  BEEP BEEP.

I have followed Dana Loesch since her start with KFTK 97.1 in St. Louis. Her success is NOT in that she is attractive but rather she speaks her mind clearly and succinctly. She's got a firebrand style that may be offensive to some. That being said I wish her nothing but the best. With her frequent appearances with Greta Van Susterin and guest host for Michael Savage, she has become a national figure in almost no time at all. Give her a chance. Why vilify her for her success?

She went to CNN because FOX wanted her to dye he hair blond

Sure like to know who all these people are supposedly watching either FOX or MSNBC. I don't watch either because they're both full of crap and misinformation and now with CNN picking up someone who just two years ago was nothing more than a bloggger and has no political experience at all to give us our news shows how misinformation and not reality drives these tools to watch people like this.

Since when does standing up for the integrity of our Constitution equal shrill arguments? She is passionate about conserving the principles that made our country a shiny city on a hill for the past 200 years. I know this from personal experience. She believes as I do that the Constitution is more of a fixed social contract rather than a document that changes it's meaning with the times. She may not be a constitutional scholar, but I'd listen to her 1000 times more than our so called "Constitutional Lawyer in Chief", one Barack Obama.

Congrats Dana! CNN needs someone on their roster that can give a dose of reality. Their ratings have toppled because just about everyone on their roster is in the left wing world of Denial....they still don't get that in Nov. 2010, the people have spoken loud and clear about stopping the crazy train that started it's ride in 2008.

When someone has the "you-either-love-her-or-you-hate-her" factor, it's an automatic ratings boost. Dana has that. She is good-looking, scrappy, and "plucky," but definitely not a member of the Mensa Society. That makes for good media. I am amused by her meteoric rise to whateverness. My only question is, how in the heck does she find time to do the whole homeschooling Mommy thing anymore? My prediction is it won't be long before Dana's kids are enrolled in "real" school. What about Chris's studio/real estate/rehab venture? Say what you want about Chez Loesch...they're one of the most interesting couples St. Louis has ever seen. You don't have to agree with them.

CNN,CNN,CNN. How far into the tea-gutter you have fallen. Given a choice between Fox Propaganda and CNN Fox-Propaganda News Lite, tea-viewers will choose Fox every time.

It's just sad.

Here's a suggestion. Try reporting facts supported by unbiased analysis. That would clearly separate you from Fox-we-just-make-stuff-up-News.

It just might work.

Since when does common sense equate to "uber-conservative" folks?

And "Teahadist nutcase?" Someone needs a jockstrap. The great majority of this country is not Progressive. It's time you kiddies grow up and except that fact.

On the radio Dana comes across as sort of a Christian right wing Camille Paglia, which is a compliment. I like the attitude and local flavor of her show, but I always momentarily turn down the volume when she starts her personal Window World testimonial ads. That company has done so much to rape St. Louis City architecture lately by needlessly replacing 400 year old wood with vinyl that will likely not last a few decades. Literally the old growth wood of original St. Louis windows can be 500 years old! I wish she would see that and drop Window World.

I'm guessing there are a lot of moderates who prefer CNN due to it's not always being one-sided like Fox and MSNBC, and who will choose NOT to watch CNN for election coverage BECAUSE of Loesch.

Good for her. Get that money, mami.

Of course, Chad is right on this. Both Palin and Loesch use their looks like a weapon. Dana has the further advantage of being articulate.

Even more of this Teahadist nutcase making a fool of herself on TV.

Again, the highlight comes down to what the woman looks like? As someone pointed out yesterday, you found the fact that Adrienne Martin "keeps it clean" to be pertinent. Find a different job, toolbag.

She never mentions homeschooling her children anymore. I can't help but wonder if they are even being taught by her at this point? They are probably going to the homeschool "play dates" these days where they pawn kids off on other mothers to "teach". Mom is obviously out of town a lot. So during those weeks, do they just not learn?

I hope she makes a ton of money. It all sounds like too much work.

correct, the great majority in this country are fat, ignorant, paranoid bigots

Yep. Nope.
Yep. Nope.

The problem with "common sense" is that what is "common" is also very relative. Just like the term "the great majority".

Shrewish---constantly interrupting with irrelevant points--definitely.  Articulate--sure--when compared to a toadstool.

Sorry to have offended you so much that you've returned for more.

FWIW, Dana Loesch's looks have been part of the discussion ever since she began her meteoric rise into political punditry. Even her fans acknowledge this. Don't believe me? Check out what they have to say in her own publication...http://tinyurl.com/4wz7ekp
