Drunk Pulled From Illinois River

Charles Sidwell, 58, of Kampsville, sent his 2002 Grand Cherokee flying into the river around 10:30 p.m. February 19 when he failed to stop at the ferry landing in Greene County. As the Alton Telegraph reports, the ferry operator used his boat to push Sidwell's vehicle closer to shore. Meanwhile, Greene County sheriff's deputy Cliff Elliot arrived on the scene and ventured into the water to find Sidwell seated inside the car in chest-high water.
Sidwell was pulled from the vehicle and charged with driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic control device and illegal transportation of alcohol.
