Doggie Style Acrobatics Comes to St. Louis
The Missouri canine community has gotten a lot of press lately for its puppy mills and dog fighting. But did you know our local pooches are also amazing acrobats, too? Apparently, the region's dogs are among the best in the country when it comes to the long jump. That's according to Keith Johnson, a spokesman for Dock Dogs, an international organization that's been staging dog-leaping contests around the globe for the past 10 years.
Over the weekend, Dock Dogs brought its act to the Edward Jones Dome to accompany the annual Boat and Sportshow. Check out this leap by a local pooch named "Air Jordan." Holy Hind-Legness!
Forty-eight dogs entered the competition. Their owners are all members of local club called Gateway Dock Dogs that gathers once a month at a Wentzville lake to train their mutts to be four-legged Carl Lewises. According to Johnson, there are about 50 such clubs in the country, and Gateway Dock Dogs is among the top 10 in terms of collective jumping ability.
"We always know we can count on the area's handlers and their dogs," Johnson tells Daily RFT.
The winners of last weekend's contest will be automatically entered into a national tournament later this year. Watch out for a contestant named Air Jordan.
