The Return of "Jimmy Baseball": Edmonds Signs Minor-League Deal with Cardinals
|Pretty good, we'd imagine.|
So it is that at age of 40 the former All-Star center fielder is attempting one more return to baseball and the team where he spent most of his career. The Post-Dispatch broke news this afternoon that Edmonds has inked a minor-league deal with the Cardinals for 2011. The contract allows him to attend spring training with the major league club.
Edmonds hit .276 in limited play last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds after sitting out the entire 2009 season. After leaving St. Louis following the 2007 season, Edmonds played part of '08 with both the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs.
It's unclear where Edmonds would play should he make the major-league club, especially since Colby Rasmus is in his old position. Edmonds is just seven homers away from 400.
