Judge Throws Out Lawsuit Challenging Nudity Restrictions on Missouri Adult Businesses

The Missouri Legislature last year passed sweeping reforms that outlaw nudity at such businesses in addition to banning alcohol sales and consumption and curtailing operating hours. In August a consortium of adult businesses sued Attorney General Chris Koster whose job it is to enforce state statutes.
In November, Cole County Judge Jon Beetem denied the business owners' request for a summary judgment. Last week, the same judge the attorney general's request for the same. The suit, which argues that the law violates the First Amendment and that lawmakers failed to consider the financial implications of the law before passing it, was scheduled to go to trial next week.
The attorney for the business owners, Dick Bryant, tells the Kansas City Star yesterday that his clients plan to appeal the ruling.
