Leader of St. Louis Tea Party Defends Recruiting Lobbyist Gary Wiegert

Bill Hennessy loved his uncle Pat, a union man.
Bill Hennessy, co-founder of the St. Louis Tea Party, is out with an online video defending his decision to ask the former head of the St. Louis police officers' union, Gary Wiegert, to lobby in Jefferson City on behalf of his party.

Readers of Daily RFT might think that Hennessy would use the video to address concerns about Wiegert using race ("race-baiting" as one Republican legislator put it) in an attempt to scare white voters into opposing local control of the St. Louis police department.

Nope.

Hennessy made the video not in response to those racial allegations but because apparently some members of the local Tea Party are upset that their organization has recruited a union man to represent them in Jefferson City. The Tea Party, for the record, is decidedly anti-union and pushing an effort to make Missouri a right-to-work state.

In the video below, Hennessy counters that union members -- like his uncle -- can be politically conservative.
