You know what they say: If there's snow in the branches...
This morning, the Cardinals announced that they're also postponing a baseball game between University of Missouri and University of Illinois that had been scheduled for tonight at Busch Stadium. Cold temperatures and a forecast for evening rain prompted the decision.

Monday's original post follows...

This week marks the start of the 2011 Major League Baseball season.

Apparently, Mother Nature didn't get the message.

This afternoon, the club announced it will not play its Double A affiliate, the Springfield Cardinals, due to the weather.

The team customarily ends spring training with an away game against one of its farm teams. Tomorrow's forecast in southwestern Missouri, however, calls for temperatures in the mid-30s and rain.

"We are very disappointed that we have to cancel the exhibition game, but we have a responsibility to ensure that our players have safe playing conditions," said Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak in a statement. "Given the forecast, we do not feel we have any other choice than to cancel the game."

Meanwhile, the weather for Thursday's game in St. Louis is looking better. The forecast now calls for partly sunny skies and a high of 55.
