Daily Beast: Our Moms Are Happier Than Yours

According to the oh-so-scientific pollsters of the Daily Beast, St. Louisans, among other things, have nicotine addictions and a lack of book-smarts. So it's nice to know that the latest ranking chart from the pop/political website, released this week for Mother's Day, suggests that our moms have it pretty good.

So good, in fact, that St. Louis ranked No. 6 in "America's 100 Best -- and Worst -- Cities for Moms," which charted the nation's largest 100 cities in terms of a mother's quality of life. The analysts considered variables like the population of mothers in the area, as well as the number of child-care workers and maternity-health specialists in town. They also looked at the quality of each city's public schools (and we still somehow managed to grab No. 6?) and, perhaps most importantly, the number of brunch and salon businesses per mother in the area.

St. Louis was trumped only by Tampa, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Seattle and San Francisco in terms of quality of life for Mom. Here's how we stacked up:

#6, St. Louis, Missouri

Moms-per-capita (ranking among 100 largest cities): 72

Child care (ranking among 100 largest cities): 32

Schools (1 to 10 scale): 4

Maternity care (ranking among 100 largest cities): 4

Pampering score (ranking among 100 largest cities): 22
