Here's your weekly St. Louis bestseller list for the week ending May 1, as compiled by the St. Louis Independent Booksellers Alliance and based on sales at Left Bank Books, Main Street Books, Pudd'nhead Books, Subterranean Books and Sue's News.

This week's St. Louis bestseller list is packed with books by actual St. Louisans. The no. 1 children's bestseller You Are My Little Cupcake is a board book by local author Amy E. Sklansky that celebrates the deliciousness of babies, though not in the Jonathan Swift sense. (Sklansky also wrote no. 6 on the kids' list, My Daddy and Me.) Over on the adult side, The Heart and the Fist by Parkway North graduate Eric Greitens slipped to no. 2 behind Bossypants by Tina Fey (who is not a St. Louisan, though we'd be proud to claim her), but The Bird Sisters by Fontbonne University professor Rebecca Rasmussen made its debut at no. 6.

Interestingly, eight of the ten adult bestsellers this week were written by women. This brings to mind the debate that raged last fall about whether female writers are getting sufficient attention.

In other news, graduation season is upon us. You can tell because Dr. Seuss' Oh, The Places You'll Go! sits at no. 4 on the kids' list. If there's anybody who graduated high school or college since that book was published in 1990 and did not receive it as a gift or have it read to them by some teacher straining to be inspirational, Daily RFT wants to hear about it.
