St. Louis Girl is the "Cutest Vegetarian," says PETA

Madeleine Smith, the cutest vegetarian in all the land, according to peta2.
Peta2, the young adult version of the often-controversial animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, announced Monday the two cutest vegetarians in the country. And the cutest vegetarian girl in all the land is a St. Louis gal!

Madeleine Smith, 19, beat out hundreds of other herbivores to take the cruelty-free crown. On the peta2 site, she says that "a vegan lifestyle is the most important, first, and easiest step in helping animals." Vegans don't eat any animal products -- no meat, dairy, eggs, or anything else that isn't a plant.

The site says she's a college freshman who came to veganism after three years as a vegetarian. It says she enjoys educating other students about a vegan diet and spaying and neutering pets.

As a contest winner, she'll star in a peta2 ad and reign for a year alongside her cute boy counterpart, Corey Ketterman, 15, from Martinsburg, West Virginia. Take that, people who say St. Louis isn't veg-friendly!

So she may be the cutest vegetarian, but who wants to try to date her? What normal person would want to put up with what is probably and over-opinionated pain in the ass, especially every time you would try to take her out to dinner and you had to listen to her whine because you ordered more than a carrot souffle? No thanks says this carnivore.

She certainly is cute, but her, PETA's, and those that support it's policy positions on ethics as they regard animals are way way off.

For starters, goats, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, turkeys, etc. etc. etc. have been heavily genetically modified through selective breeding SPECIFICALLY as food animals either for their meat or their products by us.  That is why we call them domesticated.  It takes two to tango.  Every one of the animals I listed formed a relationship with man because they got something in return as well.  This is why certain animals cannot be domesticated and you wouldn't want to try, we have nothing they want (protection, food, warmth, etc.).  The best way to help the animals we've bred to eat as food is to keep them doing the "jobs" they were domesticated by us to do. Otherwise massive problems occur (i.e. feral hogs or suseptability to disease among genetically homogenous populations).  Problems that PETA I garuantee does not have the desire or wherewithall to solve.

Second, that oh so big brain that allows them to dribble virtue out the corners of their mouth regarding animals comes from and has been sustained by our early use of the high-nutrient content food that is meat.  Scientific studies have shown that the desire for and need to harvest meat may have been one of the developing forces behind increasing brain-size and intelligence.  It takes a lot of brainpower to kill a mammoth...just sayin.  Also, new information is beginning to crop up that individuals that are strict vegans (especially pregnant women) encounter additional health problems and have a harder time accumulating the needed nutrient contents they need from a strictly vegan lifestyle.  So much so that some doctors will recommend to vegan mothers they supplement their diets with some form of animal byproducts at the very least.

Third, if "killing" is the issue for PETA and those that ascribe to their point of view, then they are arguably on philosophically shaky ground.  Plants, as last I checked, are alive to and if you ask Prince Charles, can feel pain and respond to being talked to (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new....  The facts are undeniable, you must kill to eat: plants or animals.  Even Jains in India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J... have said moving through life without killing anything is impossible.  Sorry PETA, there just isn't a place in this world that's all warm and fuzzy.

Third, "she enjoys educating other students about a vegan diet and spaying and neutering pets."  This statement always gets me about strict vegans and PETA.  They use the word "pets" and apparently this chick believes in controlling animals enough to advocate spaying and neutering!?!?!?!

We are on top of the food chain.  Get over it.  Certain animals exist to serve the purpose of man.  Even your "pets" serve a purpose.  They provide you with joy (or are a hastle depending on who you are).  I know of no relationships that exist between humans and animals where the human does not derive something and could not be described as coercive (most people use leashes and/or cages right).  PETA is a group formed by people with an immature and underdeveloped logic regarding animals that borders on infantile obsession but use that immaturity to push policy initiatives on the 99% of the world population that sees the wisdom of correct relationships with animals and the food chain.

I invite all PETA followers to strip naked and enter the food chain (unarmed of course) at their earliest convenience.

Becoming a vegan is pretty tough to live out. Short of that, people should at least insist that animals are always raised without cruelty.

considering that the vast majority of the people on earth had a plant-based diet as recently as 100 years ago your 99% figure is a crock of shit, which is to be expected from a typical ignorant american

Ever taken Western Civ? Civilization and human life as we know it owes it's genesis to agriculture, not hunting. Hunter-gatherers lived in caves and huts, while agriculture built cities. Of course, animal domestication was a part of that, but early domestication was nothing like today's industry. Hell, hunter-gatherers with their big mammoth-slaying brains definitely did not eat meat for every meal like a modern American. If you roll up to Shop-N-Save to buy your hormone-riddled cruelty-produced meat, you cannot argue that it is at all healthy. You just can't!  If staying away from animal products was is so detrimental to pregnant women, then why is it that India has such a high population? For every dubious study the meat industry funds to try to undermine vegetarianism and veganism, there are studies that show the exact opposite. Sounds like you aren't out hunting anything but the harmless lifestyles of people who are choosing to follow a path that is dissimilar from your own.
