4.2 Magnitude Earthquakes Strikes St. Louis

Update 3:30 p.m. The U.S. Geological Survey has now downgraded the earthquake to a magnitude 3.9.

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake rattled the St. Louis region around 3:10 a.m. today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor originated near Richwoods, Missouri, (approximately 51 miles southwest of St. Louis) and could be felt as far away as Alabama. No injuries or major damage have been reported.

The quake reportedly lasted around three to five seconds, with people reportedly hearing dishes and windows rattle and feeling the ground shake and sway.

I think that you are probably right, from what has been happening this year and then the NLE 2011 in May was about the New Madrid Seismic Zone going. I pray for all of you within the NMSZ, because if it goes like it did 200 years ago, it won't be pretty. Have you seen the map of what the government thinks will happen to the US coastline if it goes? Dallas - near where I live - will either be under water or on the (new) coast. Scary times we live in!

Inland Earthquakes, typified by the New Madrid Seismic Zone and its surrounding faults, are much more dangerous than we'd like to believe. Unfortunately, we also know much less about them than we'd like to believe.
