Your Roof is Super HOT; Should You Paint it White?

• Painting roofs white would help to reduce global warming by reflecting sunlight back into space--it would be like removing every vehicle from the planet for 11 years.

• Painting a roofing brings appeal to your home. Aside from that, it can also help maintain the quality of your roofing. Hmm... I wonder if other paint colors can also help improve the insulation of your home.

• Somewhat inaccurate readings. It's an infrared thermometer, which will be prone to flucuation because of the difference in the color's ability to absorb or emit IR. • Basic science...  lighter colors reflects more light.  Darker colors absorb more color, hence why they are darker.  Lighter colors will reflect the heat away, while the darker colors absorb more.

• Isn't it simple physics?  Light (heat) reflects off of white surfaces, while it is absorbed into black surfaces?
