St. Louis Company Wants to Hear Why You Hate Moles

Who could hate these adorable little guys?

​For the fifth year in a row the Kirkwood-based pest-control company Sweeney's is sponsoring it's "I Hate Moles Because" contest asking people to share their horror stories with the subterranean varmints. The person with the best story, wins a $500 gift certificate. Runners up get the company's very own mole repellents.

For some interesting reading, check out the finalists from last year's competition. We particularly appreciate the homeowner ("Mole Miseries") who stuffed the mole holes in her yard with dog poop. Ewww.

Sweeney's Launches 5th Annual "I hate moles because..." Contest

Kirkwood-based Sweeney's, a leading producer of DIY mole control products, announces the launch of the company's 5th Annual "I hate moles because..." contest. The contest, which runs through Aug. 31, is an annual nationwide search for the most aggravating "mole woe" stories and the most creative solutions for getting rid of these unwanted yard invaders.

Since the contest's origination in 2007, thousands of battle-weary mole warriors have shared their tales of strategic campaigns designed to get rid of moles and return lawns across America to their rightful suburban beauty. Each year, the winner receives a $500Lowe's gift care and ten runner-ups receive a gift basket filled with an arsenal of Sweeney's mole control products. "We created the "I hate moles because..." contest as a forum for people to vent about why they hate molesbecause, let's face it, misery loves company," says Stew Clark, Sweeney's Director of Research & Development. "The contest gives homeowners a chance to voice their opinions on moles. We like to think of it as mole control group therapy."

The "I hate moles because..." contest rules are simple. If you or anyone you know has a "mole woe" story, Sweeney's wants to know about it. Write a short story or poem, create a video or draw a cartoon - anything that works to let Sweeney's know why you hate moles. (Note: stories about gophers and voles will also be accepted. This is an equal opportunity contest and no underground varmints will go unrecognized.) If Sweeney's esteemed panel of judges likes your story or video, they'll post it on their Facebook page and/or website. The deadline to enter this year's contest is Aug. 31, 2011.
