The Onion Skewers Our Love of Innocence Projects

Categories: Media
What Missourian doesn't feel for a wrongfully convicted inmate? We sure do. The exonerations of Josh Kezer and Antonio Beaver in the last few years come to mind; Hell, RFT itself ran a feature in 2009 on Darryl Burton, who served 24 years for a murder he didn't commit.

So yeah. That hits us in the heart. And then there's The Onion, which published this innocence project "investigation" from Missouri on Friday:

LET'S ALL DAB OUR EYES WITH HANKIES FOR POOR MICHAEL HOLLINGS. HE LOST HIS DIGNITY WHEN THREE OUT OF 76 PEOPLE HE MURDERED WERE FOUND NOT TO BE HIS VICTIMS. OMG. BUT HE IS SO PROUD OF KILLING THE 73 OTHERS  HE NOW HAS HIS DIGNITY BACK. NOW WE CAN ALL SLEEP SAFE AND SOUND KNOWING A MASS MURDERER IS ONCE AGAIN DIGNIFIED!

The Onion is a humor magazine.  This was a joke. Michael Hollings the mass murderer is fictional.
