UPDATED to add info from the fire department at 3:45 p.m.

Fire broke out this morning around 9 a.m. in a two-story warehouse at Arsenal and Kingshighway.

St. Louis Fire Department Captain Dan Sutter tells Daily RFT that by the time his crews were called to the scene, the building was "well involved" in fire. The building, which is owned by nearby Modern Kitchen & Bath and ostensibly used for storage, appears to be a total loss, he says.

That's the bad news. The good news is that no one was killed, much less injured -- even the firefighters who were forced to battle the frighteningly hot blaze on this incredibly hot day.

The department took pains to avoid any heat-related injuries, Sutter says, setting up a "rehab" facility at the nearby Royale bar and restaurant, giving workers a chance to cool off between stints in close proximity to the blaze. "It gets hot very quickly, especially when you're working at an intense pace," he says.

The fire was almost certainly an accident; Sutter says a workman doing upgrades to the building was using some sort of gas-powered sprayer, and it appears that vapors ignited while he was refueling the machine. (Here's an important public-service announcement: Don't use gas-fueled engines in closed environments. And don't ever refuel a hot engine, even the one on your lawnmower. "These vapors and gases can ignite," Sutter warns.)

The blaze burned near a residential area, triggering so much interest that our correspondent reports seeing a phalanx of neighbors capturing images on their phones and cameras. When the local news crew finally arrived at the scene with their professional-grade cameras, an onlooker with an iPhone shouted to them, "Too late. We're already Youtubing it." Ah, the joys of citizen journalism!

It's a shed building that's a couple gates down from the Royale.

Monte: Interesting comment. The business is owned by 2 brothers. One is a prick. I don't know the other one. I bought a lavatory base and a side closet from them. Really nice quality. I went to pick it up, and they had NO ONE to help me load it. The prick brother refused. Up to this time, I was getting along fine with the prick, even though I wanted to squeeze his balls out of his pouch. But when he refused to help, I told him to kiss my ass, and I placed the material in the drive area south of the main showroom until a friend could come to help me around 9:30 that evening. I should have told the prick to shove the cabinet up his ass, but the price was good and the quality was even better. So, i figured it was somewhat worth it. Anyway, I haven't gone back, because I found another shop that sells the same quality.....without the attitude.

It's too bad the whole business didn't burn down. I paid those sleazy bastards $40,000.00 to remodel my kitchen and bathroom. And my hand to God, my kitchen wasn't finished for 247 days!!! The owners are assholes who would not send workmen to work on the job for weeks and weeks. When they were here, they woud work for  a day and then didn't come back for another month. After weeks and weeks of calling them to no avail. I went to their showroom and demanded they send workmen to complete the job. I got another runaround. So, I began telling every customer who came in to bring a condom because they were going to get fucked really bad if they dealt with Modern Kitchens and Baths. I went back two more days telling customers the same thing. That finally worked and my kitchen was finally finished.

That looks like The Royale on Kingshighway.

Join the We Got Fucked By Modern Kitchen & Bath Club. I fought with both brothers. After continually calling, no one would speak to me. So, I called their location in Ballwin and started raising hell there. That did some good but not enough to get things done til I started telling prospective customers they would get fucked by those sleazy bastards. I also talked to my attorney and was told since I didn't have a "finished by" date in my contract there was nothing more I could do. I learned the lesson: don't ever patronize the sleazy fuckers again. Hopefully our comments will warn others of the perils in dealing with Modern We Will Fuck You Kitchen and Bath!!
