Fahey Is First D-III Coach to Be Inducted Into Women's Basketball Hall of Fame

This week, the team's coach, Nancy Fahey, earned some well-deserved props when it was announced that she was a 2012 inductee into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Fahey, who's skippered the Lady Bears for 25 years, is the all-time winningest coach in D-III history, leading her squad to five national championships. Her induction marks the first time a female D-III player or coach has received such a Hall of Fame honor.

Fahey has accrued a 596-106 record as head coach, which gives her a .859 career-winning percentage -- fourth all-time in NCAA women's basketball history. She once guided her squad to 81 straight wins, and she's the only coach in D-III history to win five national championships. (The most recent title came in 2010; this year the Bears reached the title game again before falling to Amherst College.) Fahey's ten Final Four appearances are also an NCAA record, and she's been named by the Women's Basketball Coach's Association as the D-III Coach of the Year on two occasions.

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2012 will formally be introduced later this year at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. (Details for date and location have not been finalized.) Fahey will receive her honor along with five other inductees, including Robin Roberts and Dawn Staley.
