Irony Alert! Sarah Palin Documentary Gets St. Louis Debut at "Smart Girl Summit"

the undefeated.jpg
The wait is almost over. On Saturday, filmmaker Stephen Bannon brings his Sarah Palin documentary The Undefeated to St. Louis as part of the Smart Girl Summit.

Based on the name of that conference, you'd think it would be hard for Bannon to find a more discriminating local audience to screen his film that's been universally panned as propaganda drivel. As Robert Levin, of The Atlantic, writes of the The Undefeated: "This Sarah Palin hosanna is done in by the simple fact that its director needs to go back to film school."

But then again, the Smart Girl Summit isn't exactly a Mensa conference. It's a forum for politically conservative women, with smarty pants such as Dana Loesch signed up to speak as panelists.

What's the chances then, that The Undefeated gets rave review from the "smart girls?" We're betting that the odds are good. Of course, that's the beauty of art and film. Just like history -- including Paul Revere's famous ride -- it's open to interpretation.

Below is the news release for this weekend's Smart Girl Summit. It's Daily RFT's special "Irony Edition" of Press Release of the Day.
For Immediate Release: July 25, 2011

Sarah Palin Documentary to Make Its St. Louis Debut 'The Undefeated' Rides Wave of Popularity to Smart Girl Summit

(Washington, DC) Smart Girl Summit, the annual conference of Smart Girl Politics Action, a non-profit organization for conservative women, will be hosting the St. Louis-area debut of the Sarah Palin documentary, The Undefeated. The screening will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 30 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, MO, with cast members and writer/director Stephen K. Bannon in attendance.

TheUndefeated's writer/director, Stephen K. Bannon noted, "We are thrilled to bring this film to the city of St. Louis and especially to the Smart Girl Summit. With its story about a woman who rose from obscurity to national prominence and the obstacles she faced along the way, this is a movie that is meant for every woman and every girl- and indeed every citizen. We thank the Smart Girl Summit for screening the film, and we applaud their outstanding efforts as an organization."

"Much like today's conservative women, The Undefeatedis feisty, smart, determined, and keeps expanding its reach despite the noise that sometimes surrounds it," said Teri Christoph, cofounder of Smart Girl Politics Action. "It was important for us to screen this movie at Smart Girl Summit because Sarah Palin has shown conservative what it takes to be an effective voice in today's political environment. We are thrilled that we are able to share the movie with the good people of St. Louis, which is home to a thriving conservative grassroots community."

The Smart Girl Summit is a two-day conferencefeaturing activist and candidate training for attendees, speeches from prominent political leaders such as Herman Cain, Phyllis Schlafly, Peter Kinder and Ann Wagner, and a straw poll to examine the political preferences of conservative women. The 2011 event will be held July 29-30 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Downtown in St. Louis, Missouri.

Smart Girl Politics Actionis a non-profit organization that reaches out to conservative women and encourages them to get involved in the political process. Written and directed by Stephen K. Bannon and produced by Victory Film Group co-founder Glenn Bracken Evans and Dan Fleuette, The Undefeated was independently financed by Victory Film Group and its partners. The film opened in select cities nationwide on July 15 to multiple sold-out runs and enthusiastic audience support.

The Undefeated features leading prominent political commentators Mark Levin, Tammy Bruce and Andrew Breitbart as well as conservative activists Kate Obenshain, Sonnie Johnson and Jamie Radtke. Additionally, the film features interviews with Alaskan civil servants, elected officials and advisors who were involved in Alaskan politics during Governor Palin's tenure.

It's irony because y'all spend tarring women that dare disagree with you as stupid?  I don't think that applies.  Sorry.

Here is one smart girl that wouldn't waste 2 seconds of my life watching that woman on the big screen.

the lazy media whore is at it again--this ex-beauty queen is making tons of $$$ off of these Tea Party retards who are just as intellectually challenged as she is...and how fitting that our very own Dana Loesch--the Palin of Missouri will be at the screening...Loesch is another money=grubbing media whore who sells out her own principles for short-term cash...the rubes that follow her heinous talk radio drivel deserve all of the misery that they most certainly have in their empty lives.

I wish I was as dumb as Sarah Palin - she's a millionaire and I'm stuck work for a living.

Sarah willnever sell herself short. This film is simply another publicity stunt to makePalin what she really wants…. not the presidency, but cold hard CASH. Palin isfor $ale and is making it rich on your dime with every book, speakingengagement, and movie ticket that markets her image and sells her looks (it’scertainly not her choice of words which got her this far.) Check out this veryscandalous portrait of her erotically rolling in the dough on my artist’s blogat http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-s...

"this film that's been universally panned as propaganda drivel"Chad, you mean liberal drivel reviews. What's wrong with showing a film about a woman's career in Alaska to conservative women?Go see the movie instead of printing false statements and whining.

You can't deal with dissenting opinions.  Duly noted.

Wait a second! Who's whining? I'm pretty sure it's not me. Check out the collection of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes from Time Magazine, Hollywood Reporter, LA Times, etc. etc. This movie has not one positive review.http://www.rottentomatoes.com/...

It's sad that you consider name-calling to be political discourse.

Those are liberal rags so you will always get a negative review in the case of Sarah Palin or any conservative.

I saw the film. I've seen better produced documentary films. When you get past that, you can appreciate and understand what Palin fought for in Alaska and what she did to accomplish it. Liberal rags will always find something to criticize without actually talking about the content of the film. In fact not one liberal rag actually discussed the film's content because there was nothing in the film they could use to attack her on, so they fall back to name calling.

@dan - kinda sounds like you haven't read Time... or at least done so with your brain engaged.

"In fact not one liberal rag actually discussed the film's content because there was nothing in the film they could use to attack her on, so they fall back to name calling."

Absolutely not true. As a matter of fact, I've read all the reviews on rottentomatoes and the consensus is not that the film is just bad, but there's a dirth of actual information.

Roger Moore of the Orlando Sentinel states: "Here’s what ISN’T in “The Undefeated” — Palin’s many gaffes on the campaign trail in 2008,  gaffes which continue today, her deer in the headlights moments during debates, her disastrous Katie Couric interview and her cash-in-quick reality TV soap opera family. The movie skims over the reasons she quit her governor’s job just as the going got really tough and glosses over the flood of ethics complaints that dogged her. There is no “Bridge to Nowhere.” You leave out that stuff and it casts doubt on what you’ve chosen to include and how you may have slanted her Alaskan record."

See? It sounds like an infomercial or a puff piece and not an objective documentary.

JDCampbell is just another teaparty moron who can't accept facts when they're right in front of his face. Seems like the "liberal" rags (oh, you guys are just full of excuses constantly, just like Sarah Palin) know propaganda when they see it. And further more, it sounds like it's a poorly made movie.

If your party is the party of taking personal responsibilities, why is it that every time your FAIL you have to start pointing figures. Face it, Sarah Palin's political career is DOA and making smarmy, amateurish and hackneyed propaganda films are only going to do more damage.

Having said that, I truly can't wait to see this movie and add it to my collection of DVDs such as other truly awful films like Valley of the Dolls and Mommie Dearest. Unfortunately, I don't live in the "Real America" (I live in Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, but shh...don't tell Sarah that) so the movie's not playing anywhere near me.

Rotten Tomatoes is a liberal mag?  Frickin teabagging idiot.  I guess by your rules you can call whatever you want whatever you like, so let's call you a fat assed uninformed pervert.
