Coyote Spotted In Maplewood

Hear ye, hear ye: A coyote makes a statement in Maplewood.
The City of Maplewood is warning its residents of a recent coyote sighting.

Rachelle L'Ecuyer, community development director for the mid-county suburb, put out a media alert on the critter this afternoon. L'Ecuyer tells Daily RFT that the animal was spied in the 7200 block of Rule Avenue, near the Union Pacific railroad tracks.

L'Ecuyer assures us that the animal spotted Saturday night is real -- unlike the "cougars" who used to hang out at the former Jive & Wail in Maplewood. Now  L'Ecuyer is directing alarmed residents to the website of the Missouri Department of Conservation that gives pointers on dealing with coyotes.

"Coyotes are scavengers, so people shouldn't leave food out for their pets. Or leave their pets outside or their small children," L'Ecuyer warns. "The conservation department also suggests that you can harass or chase the coyotes away."

Follow that advice at your own risk.

I'd like some more description of this sighted coyote. I have 2 spitz dogs (shiba inu) & a spitz mix that people swear are foxes/ wolves/ coyotes. There was a small akita mix female that was hit off SW during Schlafly Art event. If there is somewhere I can learn more please post where. Still residents should heed these steps!

They are timid animals, solitary scavengers that do not pose a threat to anything save maybe small dogs - get a big dog and get over it

What's the big deal about a Coyote in Maplewood. Why don't you write about all the Coons spotted in N. St. Louis?

You must be new here, welcome to St. Louis! Here's a tip: prison is a little too late to learn to use a pickaxe as a melee weapon.
