A loser's trifecta: Minivan. Drugs. Murder.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office yesterday charged 27-year-old Emmanuel Sanchez with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

Sanchez, of the 700 block of State Street in Belleville, is accused of driving his minivan into a crowd of people who'd recently left the Social House of Soulard and begun fighting in a nearby parking lot.

Sanchez's vehicle struck 40-year-old Gary Patch of Columbia, Illinois, around 2:40 a.m. Thursday. Patch was flipped into the air and then dragged beneath Sanchez's minivan. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Sanchez fled the scene just south of downtown. Police discovered his Mercury minivan nearby and later located Sanchez, as well. He's being held without bond.
