Just How Does a Dead Body Go Unnoticed for 12 Days in a Casino Parking Garage?

In its defense, Ameristar says its parking garages are big ones. Well, yeah, but...
A casino patron leaving the Ameristar St. Charles made a grisly discovery early today in the casino's parking garage.

Hattie Bradley, 62, lay dead inside a white Ford Mustang. Authorities say surveillance footage shows Bradley getting into the borrowed Mustang after leaving the casino on September 4 -- almost two weeks ago. Bradley, of St. Louis, reportedly had been missing since September 1.

St. Charles police today say that nothing about Bradley's decomposing body suggests foul play. Still, one wonders, how can a dead body go unnoticed for twelve whole days inside Ameritar's parking garage?

To that we turn to Ameristar's regional PR director, Reggie Dotson.

"First and foremost the security and safety of our guests is our No. 1 concern," Dotson said when Daily RFT reached him this afternoon. "Our security team was notified of a woman possibly sleeping in the car this morning, and they conducted an investigation before calling police."

Dotson says one of the reasons the body lingered so long inside the parking garage is that Bradley wasn't visible inside the car "at first glance."

Asked why Ameristar security didn't notice the body earlier, Dotson says the garage is a large one. Ameristar actually has two, five-story garages that can accommodate 6,450 cars, according to the company's website.

Dotson couldn't say whether the casino has a policy for towing vehicles left in the garage for more than a few days. Nor would he speculate on how long the body may have remained if a patron hadn't made the discovery today.

Dotson says the casino's security team appropriately turned over the matter to the police and the Missouri Gaming Commission for review.
