Just How Does a Dead Body Go Unnoticed for 12 Days in a Casino Parking Garage?

Categories: News

In its defense, Ameristar says its parking garages are big ones. Well, yeah, but...
A casino patron leaving the Ameristar St. Charles made a grisly discovery early today in the casino's parking garage.

Hattie Bradley, 62, lay dead inside a white Ford Mustang. Authorities say surveillance footage shows Bradley getting into the borrowed Mustang after leaving the casino on September 4 -- almost two weeks ago. Bradley, of St. Louis, reportedly had been missing since September 1.

St. Charles police today say that nothing about Bradley's decomposing body suggests foul play. Still, one wonders, how can a dead body go unnoticed for twelve whole days inside Ameritar's parking garage?

To that we turn to Ameristar's regional PR director, Reggie Dotson.

"First and foremost the security and safety of our guests is our No. 1 concern," Dotson said when Daily RFT reached him this afternoon. "Our security team was notified of a woman possibly sleeping in the car this morning, and they conducted an investigation before calling police."

Dotson says one of the reasons the body lingered so long inside the parking garage is that Bradley wasn't visible inside the car "at first glance."

Asked why Ameristar security didn't notice the body earlier, Dotson says the garage is a large one. Ameristar actually has two, five-story garages that can accommodate 6,450 cars, according to the company's website.

Dotson couldn't say whether the casino has a policy for towing vehicles left in the garage for more than a few days. Nor would he speculate on how long the body may have remained if a patron hadn't made the discovery today.

Dotson says the casino's security team appropriately turned over the matter to the police and the Missouri Gaming Commission for review.

Ive worked at Ameristar, and as security at another casino in the area. Quite frankly, guest security once you step out the door doesnt have a hell of a lot of priority in most area casinos. Ameristar seems to have the most visible, with the Alton Belle a distant second. Harrahs is a complete joke, River city makes the others look like Fort Knox! But in all honesty I could see after driving hours and hours how someone could miss a body in the car. But also, if a car was sitting 12 days, and the security officer was properly doing his / her job, they would have at least noted the car. (Its not like a white Mustang is easily lost in the crowd.) I was told at River City there would be no outdoor patrols "Until they were asked to do it."  So when it comes down to it, they dont want you to conceal carry on the boat. Theyll leave that for gaming to protect them. But if you want to protect yourself. Youre pretty screwed!

When I worked security for the Ameristar in Black Hawk we had one person who's job was to scan the garage cameras looking for people sleeping in their cars. If we found a sleeper we went to their car immediately to wake them up, and tell them that sleeping is only allowed in the hotel rooms. In addition to watching the cameras we also periodically patrolled the garage looking for sleepers. In light of what I assumed to be Ameristar wide policies I'm very surprised that she was not noticed within a few hours, let alone 12 days

OMG so they are more worried about making money on a room then if the people are OK?!?!?!? I'd say the people sleeping in the cars are the ones who lost most their money in the casino. I for one will make it a point to never got there!!

Lets also not forget it is not uncommon for someone to gamble all night and get a room at the casino or stay there a few days.

Ameristar's security is a joke; I witnessed a brawl there one time that had been brewing for ten minutes.  In all that time it was obvious a fight was going to break out, and security was nowhere in sight.  They're too busy watching for cheating than for your safety.

This body wouldn't have stayed in the car much longer b/c the stench i'm sure is what drew the attention of the passerby the most. I'd be curious what killed her more than blaming the casino for not finding her sooner. There needs to be a full autopsy done, though i don't envy the coroner at this point.yeck

Have you been to any of the casinos and seen the clientele? The casinos in their commercials love to use shots of high class, beautiful people to give an image of glamor but the reality is that most patrons are rat faced grannies in dirty sweatsuits plugging their social security into 2 slot machines simultaneously while they chain smoke.  In essence these people already look half dead at best. I imagine anyone who saw thought she was simply taking a nap to sleep off the effects of cheap liquor and rejuvenate herself for another round of high stakes penny slots.

I am going to assume that you are speaking of the general population and not referring to Hattie Bradley.  Her family and friends would be offended to learn that such offensive comments were being made.

While this description is true, lets not forget the fat asses in skin tight outfits spending their welfare checks.

Let's not attack the victims in this case, the next time it could be you or your loved one. Security is important to all of us.

Thank you. It appears that people forget that Hattie was reported missing by a family who loved her.  The casino was personally notified and yet they did nothing to look for her.

you are so right about the clientele. Once we went to an investors party at a black hawk casino, i was wearing a gown and some creep told me i was over-dressed! [ooh gee sorry i wasn't wearing the traditional sweat pants garb] wow.

You hit the nail on the head, ihatesuberbs! You painted a very accurate picture of the grannies. Too  bad you didn't mention  all the pour souls hooked up to small oxygen tanks, masks on, and shoving monies in those slot machines like there is no tomorrow.

don't forget they remove the oxygen mask every few minutes to get couple more puffs on the ciggy

To be fair, for most of them there basically is no tomorrow.

I asked myself the same question when I heard this story this morning, but the sad fact is, there are people, many people, who visit the casinos every day.  So just because the same car was in the same spot for two weeks really isn't an anomaly in casino culture.
