Male Nurse Rescues State Trooper from Drunk

Now here's something they don't teach in nursing school.
Oh, to have witnessed this scene as it unfolded Saturday night along Interstate 55 and Meramec Bottom Road in south St. Louis County!

According to police, Jason M. Becks of Ste. Genevieve was driving erratically around 7 p.m. when a state trooper pulled him over. As the officer attempted to arrest Becks for driving under the influence, the 44-year-old suspect ran away. The officer quickly caught up with him and a struggle ensued.

Enter Doug Beis. A nurse at St. Anthony's Medical Center, Beis was passing by the scene and stopped his car along the shoulder. He then tackled Becks, allowing the officer to arrest him.

Becks is now in jail, held on a $100,000 bond, for the charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest, drunk driving and driving on a revoked license.

The only thing that nurse Beis couldn't do, evidently, was treat the trooper for his wounds sustained in the fight. The arresting officer was checked into a hospital for minor injuries to his hand and knee.

Nice to read a story where a citizen put another's life before their own. Seems he chose the appropriate profession as he looks out for others and isn't afraid to get involved and help others. Bravo!
