In January the police department used $2.7 million from asset forfeitures to purchase the building at 1915 Olive.
The St. Louis Police Foundation has given the metropolitan police department a lot of cool gifts over the years -- German Shepards, ATVs, sniper rifles, dash cams, a horse named Clyde -- but none has been quite as impressive as today's contribution.

At a luncheon this afternoon, the foundation awarded the department with a check for $3 million to go toward the renovation of the new police headquarters at 1915 Olive Street. The department purchased the building earlier this year from Wells Fargo Advisers to replace its current headquarters on Clark Street that is 84-year-old headquarters and in need of costly renovations.

The $3 million from the St. Louis Police Foundation will go toward renovations of the new headquarters. Foundation President Doug Albrecht's family foundation contributed $750,000 toward the gift. The Ruth D. and Wylie Todd Charitable Foundation contributed $250,000 and an anonymous donor kicked in the remaining $2 million.

The foundation is now calling on individuals and businesses to help furnish the new headquarters. All donors to the Police Headquarters Furnishing Drive will be recognized on a donor wall in the new building. More information and an itemized list of needs are available at www.stlouispolicefoundation.org or by contacting the St. Louis Police Foundation at 314-825-3455.
