Is SNAP's David Clohessy Really a Hypocrite?

DavidClohessySNAP.JPG
SNAP's David Clohessy
Recently in both Kansas City and St. Louis, lawyers defending the Catholic Church against clerical sex abuse allegations have have tried to subpoena years worth of emails and records from their long-time adversary, SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests).

SNAP director David Clohessy often impugns the Church for failing to deal transparently with clerical sex abuse. Is it hypocritical for him to balk at releasing his group's correspondence with victims, journalists and others?

Catholic League president Bill Donahue apparently thinks so, suggesting in the Post-Dispatch last week that:
Clohessy never tires of lecturing the Catholic Church on the need for transparency, yet when he is in the hot seat, he rebels.
Daily RFT asked Clohessy by e-mail for his reaction.

He roundly rejects any moral equivalence. Here's what he wrote to us:
Transparency about criminals helps protect the vulnerable. Transparency about victims hurts the already-hurting.

When victims' privacy is respected, more victims are able to speak up, protect others, expose predators and start healing. When victims' privacy is violated, more victims stay silent, more predators walk free and more innocent people are assaulted.

Who benefits when the private e mails of a struggling teenager, who was sexually assaulted for years by her priest, are given to Archbishop Carlson and his lawyers? That's not "transparency." That's a travesty. That's brutality. That's betrayal.

Men who beat their spouses, rape adults and assault kids would love to force 'transparency' on their helpless victims. They'd love to get records of what their victims told counselors or where they took refused or what they said in support groups. But does anyone really think that's how our society should function?

Archbishop Carlson is desperately trying to protect the reputations of his top staffers who knowingly and deceitfully put an admitted child predator back in a parish where he again sexually violated another child. Is there a more heinous offense than deliberately putting kids in the path of a predator with no waring to their parents? So of course Carlson will do anything possible to shift blame and attention elsewhere, even if it means going after a non-profit self help group and a hurting teenaged girl.

Our position isn't hypocrisy. It's common sense. It's the long-standing and well-established practice of rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters and counselors and cops and everyone who cares about safeguarding the vulnerable from the violent.

We put convicted sex offenders' names on state websites. We don't put their victims' names out there.

Finally, let's step back and consider the big picture for a second. Archbishop Carlson and his brother Catholic bishops have hired, hidden, transferred, defended and enabled child molesters. SNAP hasn't. Carlson and his colleagues have ignored and concealed their crimes. SNAP hasn't. Carlson and his peers have caused and compounded unimaginable pain to tens of thousands of once innocent and trusting boys and girls. SNAP hasn't. So the idea of treating the church's records about pedophiles the same as SNAP's records about victims is reckless, callous and stupid.
Clohessy's view notwithstanding, it should be pointed out that the Church does have a right to defend itself, and subpoenas are often issued in broad terms, then narrowed down later.

So the extent to which SNAP will have to respond to the Church's subpoena in the St. Louis case is not yet clear.

My name is Rick Springer and I too was abused by a catholic priest in 1952 in Chicago when I was 14, a recent convert to the religion and studying for the priesthood. Were it not for survivor organizations like LINKUP and SNAP being there for me and countless other victim/survivors to confront the hierarchy of the church and demand justice these unholy crimes would still be covered up by the pope and his minions, the bishops. Thanks to the brave actions of folks like David Clohessey, Barbara Blaine and Jeanne Miller those filthy secrets are being exposed around the world and the Vatican stands accused of crimes against humanity in the International Court of Criminal Justice at the Hague.

If it weren't for the likes of David Clohessey, Barbara Blaine, and Barbara Doriss innocent priests would not have been hung out to dry.  This is an out and out vendetta and they are not even licensed counselors.  Maybe the pro Snappers here should look deeper in to David Clohessey.  His connections to attnys who want to "sue the shit out of the Catholic church"  and his connection to ACORN.  Let's not forget that Clohessy's brother ~ a priest is himself a pedophile and the fact that David Clohessey will not acknowledge it.  He chooses to look the other way.  Open your eyes people.  This is an out and out attack on the Catholic church.  Our children and 100% more likely to be molested in the public schools and yet the media over looks this very fact.  Get educated and quite going on mere opinions and the biased coverage of the lame stream media.

Asking the "hypocrite" question betrays a lack of understanding of David Clohessy and SNAP.  David is a person of integrity who has devoted a good part of his life advocating for victims of sexual abuse, especially abuse committed by the clergy.  SNAP is the most effective organization in helping victims attain healing and a measure of justice.   To demand confidential material that would expose victims to the public is to re-victimize the the victim, create a terrible chilling effect, and discourage others from seeking healing and attaining justice.  We are talking about protecting victims of sexual abuse.  In no way can this be equated with bishops and  dioceses protecting criminals and abusers of children.

What a wonderful op-ed article I just read by Rep. Thomas Murt advocating a need for expanding statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases. We could not agree more, except that we favor eliminating statutes of limitation in these cases just as there are no SOL in cases of murder. It is time all of our states implement such laws in order to get some measure of justice for victims of sexual abuse whether by clergy or anyone else. Such legislation should take place and pass during the upcoming legislative sessions, including here in Illinois. This issue should rise above politics and not be held hostage by huge organizations, including the Catholic Church, spending millions lobbying against any strengthening of legislation. Explain this to me, folks. First Clohessy has been accusing the church of a big cover-up. Now he says it's threatening to bring out to the public a whole bunch of previously undisclosed cases. Which is it?

Second, this is where Clohessy gets his tailfeathers subpoenaed. He's shooting his mouth again about a case that has very recently been filed, calling the accuser a "victim" and saying he knows for a fact that the accused priest has been, and I quote, "sexually assaulting her for years."

If he's got evidence that is germane to this lawsuit, he should not only be prepared to testify, he should be anxious to.

But he doesn't. And he knows he doesn't. Instead, he's playing the game of holding the trial in the press instead of a court of law, where he can't control the rules. And all for the benefit of his plaintiff's attorney handlers and funders.

I also would also find it laughable if it weren't so clumsy that Clohessy has made a career out of parading his "victims" and their "stories" before the press from coast to coast, and now, with his little game exposed and his keister in a sling, all of the sudden, his "victims" deserve absolute, total secrecy.

Well, David, here's something you know damned well, but will continue to try to fool the public with --- NONE OF THOSE NAMES OR STORIES WILL BECOME PUBLIC UNLESS A JUDGE ORDERS IT. They will all be held "in camera" as the defense sorts through your records for the evidence it is after. And you know what that is. It's the evidence that has caused that big, wet stain on the front of your cheap suit.

Holy smoke screen!!! In yet another Catholic Church tactic to divert attention away from the real issue, it now intends to further violate its victims by making public documents that were intended, and believed to be, private. Never mind "throwing someone under the bus". The Catholic Church might as well back the bus up, and roll over a victim's injuries one more time, just to make sure the damage has been done! These documents are private, personal and a giant first step towards a victim's healing process. Making them public re-inflicts pain and harm and re-opens old wounds. This court order is not only insane, it is cruel and inhumane, and raises further doubt as to the sincerity of the Church's promise to bind up its wounds. Seriously, pouring salt in wounds was not what Jesus meant when he encouraged His church to be the salt of the earth.

Thank you David Clohessy, for fighting the good fight for victims everywhere! I am sure by now, victims everywhere have requested, as is their right, for SNAP to return all of their personal documents to them so you have to no longer be responsible for them!

I think every confession should be video taped.  No exceptions.  That way, the priest doesn't have to break any rules about confidentiality and a monitor can check out everday, if anybody has been raped while in the confessional.

So the archbishop is not just blaming the victim in a sexual abuse case but attacking the victim and her defender. The bishop shows that he is defending his clerical caste over and against the church as a whole. Bishops in the Catholic Church are unelected. This was not so in the early church. Then there were no clergy. The New Testament, especially St. Paul's authentic letters, show women leading local churches. Bishops began near the end of the 1st century. They were elected by their communities. That custom continued until Constantine (4th century) when they began to be elected by their fellow bishops. Lay people have suffered from that unjust custom ever since. Be careful bishop. You'll wake the sleeping giant.

Protection of victims should always be paramount.  That aside, in regards to full disclosure, I've yet to find any disclosure relating to the funding of SNAP -- as mentioned in a recent news piece (link follows):

(SNAP)... has been linked to Jeffrey Anderson, an attorney based in Minnesota who has been successful in getting large settlements from Catholic dioceses and religious organizations for alleged sexual abuse on the part of Catholic clergy. Donohue said of SNAP and its staff, "Dr. Steve Taylor is a psychiatrist who is sitting in prison for downloading child pornography from his computer. He is well known to SNAP—he was one of their go-to shrinks for years. Indeed, the convict is so well loved by SNAP that the founder of the organization, Barbara Blaine, intervened on his behalf and wrote to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners pleading with them to cut Taylor some slack.  In other words, SNAP has hired, hidden, defended, enabled, ignored and concealed the crimes of child molesters."

Not every pedophile priest victim wants to see the rights of accused priests get trompled in the name of justice for survivors, especially when secrecy on the part of the Catholic Church has been at the core of the pedophile epidemic among priests.

Some of us want total transparency, from the church AND from the victims.

Some day in the future, any one of us could be accused of a crime, and we'd want the same rights to a defense as these priests are demanding. SNAP is recklessly ignoring the rights of the accused, even if they are guilty criminals, to present a defense, and SNAP is setting a dangerous precedent that could result in all of us losing some of our rights.

Kay Ebeling http://cityofangels12.blogspot... and even some victims would like to see more transparency on the part of SNAP.

The Church's tactics are tantamount to a rapist's lawyer that pressures an underage girl to reveal her identity to the press.  The difference is that we have laws that prevent lawyers from doing that.  There is an enormous difference between VICTIMS and ABUSERS.  Clohesy is not on trial.  Shame on you, KC Archdiocese, for attempting to further violate the dignity and respect of recovering victims.  And shame on you, RFT, for choosing a catchy and misleading headline.

The Roman Catholic “church” is imploding from within as a result of the scandalous conduct of both her priests and bishops brought to light in our day by the providence and mercy of God. It is their priests . . their bishops . . their cardinals . . their pope . .those who presumptuously call themselves "Christ's Representatives" and “princes of the church” who have given the religion of Christ a bad name!

When the largest religious institution in the world has consistently been proven to place its' corporate image and the reputation of her priests above the welfare of children they must expect the intense scrutiny of the media. The coverage and attention that the scandalous practices of R.C. Clerics has attracted by the media is proportionate to the gravity of the offenses . . the abuse of children . .  and especially appropriate to those who claim to be the “one true church of Jesus Christ”!

The SCANDAL they are now embroiled in is one of their own making.

Even the irreligious . . the professed atheist can see that the hypocritical conduct andthe flagrant abuse of power exhibited by the Roman Catholic hierarchy in it's handling of the ongoing Clergy Abuse Scandal is wholly inconsistent with the teachings of Christ.

In truth . . . the foundations of the self-proclaimed “one true church of Jesus Christ” are crumbling / collapsing under the insupportable weight of the rot and corruption of lies, deceit and cover up that lurks beneath the surface of its’ pretentious pious exterior. Areligious institution that has consistently been proven to place its' corporate image and the reputation of her priests above the welfare of children provides compelling reasons to opt out.

Those of us who have studied the matter out and examined the stats and facts for ourselves have left and taken both our children and pocket books with us. We KNOW who the REAL HYPOCRITES are!

Those truly “tethered to the truth” and guided by the Holy Spirit are compelled to leave.” (John 14:16-17; 16:13)

“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;  (Eph. 5:9)

Ironically, the SCANDAL the "spiritual rulers" of the Roman Catholic church sought so desperately to avoid has proven to be the SCANDAL of the century!

The Roman Catholic “church” is not Christ's Church!

Catholics are hypocrites, and not very smart ones.

Want to see all of SNAP's hidden documents?  How about if lawyers also subpoena the confidential information disclosed in Catholic confessions, which is not protected by US laws.  Then we'd really get to the truth of the matter, but the Catholic church hides the truth like they hide pedophiles.

No, David Clohessy and SNAP are not hypocritical at all in my opinion.  I do not see how anyone could even equate SNAP's stand of protecting victims' correspondence/interactions as well as interactions with reporters or whoever with the total hypocrisy of the church.  I see no correlation whatsoever.  The church seems to go to any lengths in attacking victims and those who support them.  As President of Chicagoland VOTF, we salute David Clohessy and SNAP and all the wonderful healing work they have done to help victims become survivors.  Sandra Stilling Seehausen

People: before you fall victim again and again to weepy stories about the "six million" that never happened from these jewish shysters (and offer your sons to die in another of their wars) let's keep in mind the real story of the 28 Million plus Christians they murdered in Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution before sinking their fangs in to Germany and Western Europe then later in to Palestine and the Middle East.

They will do and say anything to destroy Christianity in the West. Don't give the enemy any more help in their Witch Hunt on the Catholic Church and Catholic Faith. These predators are no better than the handful of predators they go after because their goal is not to out pedophiles, if it were they would go after so many other real culprits. Their goal is to bankrupt the Catholic Church and eliminate it.

I am a 56-year-old female, the survivor of sexual and psychological abuse in which the church was intimately involved. I describe myself as having been raised "viciously Catholic." By that, I mean that blind worship of and unquestioning obedience to the "Church", as perceived by the community of adults surrounding me, took precedence over any hurt or damage perpetrated on the children involved. The tactics being employed by the Catholic church are classic examples of this viciousness: do everything possible to protect an organization that's rotting from within - sacrificing its victims once again and perpetrating evil. The Catholic Church is the "hypocrite" here.

Dr Rosemary Eileen McHugh
Dr Rosemary Eileen McHugh

I am a Catholic physician. I have met many who have been sexually abused by priests.

I have the greatest respect for David Clohessy, Executive Director of SNAP (The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests), and for Barbara Blaine, Founder and President of SNAP.The focus of SNAP is to protect people, especially children, from sexual abuse by predatory priests. I would have thought that the bishops would also want to protect the innocent and the vulnerable from priest sexual abuse, in their role as pastors wanting to follow the Good Shepherd. It seems that the American bishops are NOT seekers of the truth in regard to the clergy sexual abuse issue. Rather than focusing on the accusations of abuse from several people, in regard to one priest, it seems that the bishops' lawyers want to divert attention away from the Church's accountability, and further victimize the victims of clergy sexual abuse.I can only conclude that the American bishops are following the secretly understood wishes of Pope Benedict XVI, since the legal games of the bishops' lawyers, against the victims of clergy sexual abuse, have not been denounced by the Pope. From my research, I believe that Pope Benedict XVI has been complicit in allowing priest sex abuse to flourish worldwide, from the time that he was known as Cardinal Ratzinger and head of the office of faith and morals for 24 years, and then when he became Pope in 2005. The Pope has still not admitted his role in the priest sexual abuse scandal. The leadership of the Roman Catholic Church, its arrogance, power, and control are at stake for Pope Benedict XVI and the hierarchy. Rather than doing the right thing and stopping the predator clergy and removing them from the priesthood, the Pope and the bishops act as if they are above the law.  The Church lawyers humiliate and intimidate the victims and their advocates. Civil and international legal action is needed to make the Pope and others accountable for what they have allowed to happen to innocent children.Sincerely,   Dr Rosemary Eileen McHugh, Chicago, Illinois

Call for action~~? Maybe. But what kind and for whom. Sounds like some would also want AA to be Just A. Should those who are victims also have to post pics and info on the sex offenders site. After all MOST abusers have been abused themselves. Therefore all victims should be watched for life.Lets not forget the people who check into rehab for ANY reason. They also Must be suspected. If you have ever been to a shrink , therapist, preist, minister, nun, rabbi, teacher, or even a financial advisor then you have to be suspect. Better yet all of these things need to be recorded, taped and made part of public record.

No more victims rights , intervention or protection programs. Thats for people who are hiding or dont want to tell the truth. After all anyone who dosent want to share everything about themselves HAS to be bad or trying to hide something really bad. No more witness programs or crime tip lines. Those people are just alarmist busybodies and cranks. I smelll a pattern here. VICTIMS ARE THE BAD PEOPLE~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THEY MUST BE DEALT WITH ~~~~ PUT THEM ALL AWAY!!!!

No. Having the Archdiocese get every single thing I or my therapist ever wrote was one of the most traumatic things about my case. It was devastating -- and what is more devastating was having the Archdiocese's attorney twist and distort that information to try and discredit me. I understand they have a right to those files but it is still just horrible. Nothing I said to my therapist was confidential -- a violation of the most basic rights as a patient. If I had written to David Clohessy with what I thought was confidentiality and then had it turned over to the Archdiocese I would be absolutely devastated. It's just one more way for the Archdiocese to twist the knife while protecting pedophiles. I agree with Clohessy, "Transparency about criminals helps protect the vulnerable. Transparency about victims hurts the already-hurting."

It is the police's job to investigate crimes.  They determine if there is sufficient basis to investigate and then the district attorney decides along with a grand jury whether there is sufficient evidence of a crime to indict. Many sex crimes are not pursued by DAs because of the inherent difficulties in their prosecution, chief of which is the reluctance of the victim to confront the person who violated their sense of autonomy.  Exposing the victims personal communications and attacking their network of support is clearly a tactic to intimidate victims and to undermine prosecution.

If Clohessy were a "real" champion "for the kids" he would:

A.) Go after all clergy abuse not just the Catholic Church that is organized and has deep pockets.

B.) He would go after Gay Pride, NAMBLA and other organizations that molest children.

He's in it for the money. In my opionion he's a piece of shit and no better than the molestors.

SNAP is not a plaintiff in this case of the allegations made against church officials - so why are the bishop's lawyers looking to seize SNAP's records? Perhaps to learn who the supporters of SNAP are, some of whom are clergy and religious.  There will be a major dampening of victims coming forward, knowing that anything they might have said in confidence will now fall into the hands of their rapists and their rapists' enablers - the bishop.

Homosexuals_R_Molestors
Homosexuals_R_Molestors

How is what the Catholic has done different than what Gay Pride St. Louis or all it's other chapters does. Not defending the church on pedophilia just stating the Gay Pride Homosexuals molest children (mostly) and not so much consensual adult perversions yet liberals will go to the nth degree to defend the homosexuals their right to molest children. Gay Pride and NAMBLA are both clearinghouses for pedophilia. Point being Klohessy aint no saint! All he has to do is follow a few Gay Pride members and he'd have a case log for years. The problem is not restricted to the Catholic Church the problem is with ALL homosexuals.

Carla Kendall
Carla Kendall

The Catholic Church are a collection of child rapists and liars, and more proof is coming out every day. In Philadelphia Cardinal Bevilacqua and two bishops were proven to shred documents back in 1994 that contained a list of 35 known pedophile priests of which 13 fully admitted that they committed the crimes. Bevilacqua lied repeatedly under oath as we have seen from the grand jury report.

Catholics defend them which helps build the strength of their child rape empire.

If the I should use RICO statutes to infiltrate the entire organization like they infiltrate the Mafia. The Catholic church is the organized crime family of child rape, and all of its citizens protect that Mafia.

Sounds great! Except that's not your goal. Your goal is to rid the world of religion except for Judyizm. Let's talk about that for a moment. The little square hat representing Venus, let's talk about Gog and Magog and the Synagogue of Satan, let's talk about rampant Rabbi child molestation, let's talk about organized White slavery by Rabbis and other jewry, let's talk about murdering Palestinians and harvesting their internal organs to be shipped to the USA and used in operations in jewish hospitals..... let's open the dialogue to include your distasteful and ugly religion.

NO! You're just a bigot.

You jews will say or do anything to destroy the Catholic Church.

I completely agree with Dr. McHugh's statement - particularly regarding the "arrogance, power, and control" of the Catholic Church. This is an institution that was corrupt from its founding - most recently and dispassionately laid out in the book "Absolute Monarchy: A History of the Papacy." I am committed to doing my part to speak truth to power. At the age of 56, I am only just now able to live the life of peace, joy and love intended for me by my higher power. It took years of therapy, hard work and completely distancing myself from that church and my family of origin. They are soul killers. But they didn't kill mine.

they will burn in hell for that, and history will remember the Catholic church as the evil institution that it is.

So sorry to hear what they did to you.

Organizations like yours are frequently clearinghouses for providing children to be abused so better watch your step missy. A jew name and Phd are red flags to your type. Go after your sick sick sick rabbis that love to suck the blood from baby penises and then get back to us sicko jew.

Really?  So he should take on more work?  It is a full time job for multiple people to fight the 4,392 known, accused "Jerry Sanduskys" from the Catholic church, and every one of these cowardly child rapists is protected by plenty of other priests that they confessed to.

You go fight the others if you care.  If your church followed your God's laws, this never would have happened.

That being the case, the not so holy RC “church's” first priority should be to clean their own house. Rev. Donald Cozzens, author of the 2000 book "The Changing Face of the Priesthood," estimates 50 percent of all Catholic priests are homosexual.

Psychotherapist Richard Sipe, a former Catholic priest who has written and spoken widely on the priesthood, says 15 percent of homosexual priests are sexually active. If all homosexual clergy were to leave the U.S. Catholic Church now, the church would lose one-third of its bishops as well, added Mr. Sipe, whose new book on priestly sexual abuse dating back to the fourth century, comes out Nov. 15.

It would appear the Roman Catholic priesthood is itself a “gay community”.

In 2005, the church issued its "Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders". The policy states that those men with "deeply rooted homosexual tendencies" cannot be ordained under any circumstances.

Given this reality, what will the R.C. Hierarchy do? Will they recuse themselves, resign, and/or dismantle the present hierarchy which is infested with homosexuals . . for the”good of the church”? Not too likely!

This glaring contradiction once again reveals the double standard and double-speak that characterizes Roman Catholicism, and as I said shows who the real Hypocrites are! Furthermore, the myth that the Roman Catholic priesthood is "uniquely configured to Christ" is completely destroyed by the reality of a priesthood that is predominantly comprised of homosexuals.

What a mockery Roman Catholicism has made of the religion of Christ and the "Sacred Scriptures" that relegates all sexual immorality a sin, regardless of what form it takes! Roman Catholicism is not Christ's Church!

Actually, JuneAnnette, Roman Catholicism IS the one true Church. It's a matter of history. Check it out. This Church was founded by Jesus Christ. Other denominations have their roots from the RC Church. And quoting from the likes of Richard Sipe is not impressive. He is a former monk who could not keep his vows, his solemn vows, to God. Rather lacks credibility, no?

TruthBeTold . . The TRUTH is . . Origin of the true church of Jesus Christ . . In God's Word as it is found in the New Testament, referred to as the 'Apostolic Age',

Christian churches were established by the Apostles as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles and in the Epistles from 30-100A.D.

For example . . in those days, we read of Christian churches being established in Jerusalem (Acts 8:1; Acts 11:22; Galatia (1 Cor. 16:1; Gal. 1:2) Corinth (1 Cor. 1:2; 2 Cor. 1:1;) Ephesus (Acts 20:17)

In the Epistle to the Romans and the Philippians we learn there were churches established in these cities. . Rome & Philippi as well. It must be pointed out here that the church the apostle Paul established in Rome is not to be confused with the Roman Catholic church.

Additionally, in Acts 11:26 we read . . “And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”

Furthermore, in the Book of Revelation (95 A.D.) the Apostle John writes of at least ten known churches established in the province of Asia alone.

Most historians agree the Roman Catholic church was formed in 312 A.D. at the time of the so-called “miraculous conversion” to Christianity of the Roman Emperor Constantine.

This agrees with what Thomas Patrick Doyle . . a Roman Catholic . . writes concerning the RCC:

He writes . . .

*“The Catholic Church was officially recognized by Emperor Constantine in the early 4th century. With this recognition the religious leaders, soon to be known as the “clergy” gradually evolved into a separate, privileged class, the most exalted members of which were the bishops.”

Mr. Doyle goes on to say . . .

“the centralization of power (the papacy) was not evident until the middle ages (12th-13th centuries) during which time several popes gradually reserved various powers to themselves.”

*********In summary, the origin of the one true church of Jesus Christ dates back to the first century . . "And are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitlyframed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:"

- God's Word - Eph. 2:20-21

Jesus Christ did not establish any church, And I don't think the Good Lord cares not one wit whether one is a member of the "one true church" or belongs to no religion at all. What He DOES care about deeply is how one treats His children. And given the bishops track record on that issue alone I think they are going to have a lot of explaining to do when they meet Him in the next world.
