Aww, wook at the widdle world wecord holders!
For years, Soulard has claimed to host the second-largest Mardi Gras celebration in America. Yesterday, the South City neighborhood definitively laid claim to actually having the largest Mardi Gras celebration in the world -- of a sort.

With official counters on hand and a public notary verifying matters, the nineteenth annual Beggin' Pet Parade appeared to smash the world record for "most dogs in costumed attire in a single location" (currently held by Japan with 603) by ringing up 1,326 mufti-wearing, parading pooches.

Officials from the Guinness organization still have to sanction the count, but you'd think even if 100 or so of those dogs being disqualified for just wearing sunglasses and a hat, Japan has been trounced.

To which we say:

"Woo-hoo! Sniff our butts, Japan! USA! USA!"
