Here's your weekly St. Louis bestseller list for the week ending February 5, as compiled by the St. Louis Independent Booksellers Alliance and based on sales at Left Bank Books, Main Street Books, Pudd'nhead Books, Subterranean Books and Sue's News.

This week on the bestseller list, we have the meaning of Valentine's Day encapsulated in the first three titles: Blood, Bones & Butter (i.e., seduction with a sumptuous meal), Sex at Dawn (the point of the sumptuous meal) and finally, Go the Fuck to Sleep (the results of said seduction, which won't become apparent until November or so).

We also have Gone By Sundown, which is another result of Valentine's Day...no, wait, sorry, it's actually a novel by St. Louisan Peter Leach based on a real incident that happened in Ste. Genevieve in 1930. Two white men were shot. Irate (white) townspeople blamed their black neighbors, most of whom worked for ridiculously low wages in the local mine. To "protect" the blacks, the sheriff evicted them all, ordering them "gone by sundown" that evening.
