Daniel Hopkins: Godfrey Man Charged with Aggravated Cruelty to An Animal

The Madison County Sheriff's Office sent deputies to a home at 4708 Snow White Terrace at 7:19 a.m. on Tuesday at the request of someone living at the residence. The caller indicated that the police needed to check on the welfare of a family member -- the family's pet, an English bulldog. The caller also tipped them off that their relative, 29-year-old Daniel Hopkins, had anger issues and should perhaps be interviewed by the deputies.

Deputies found Hopkins willing to answer a few questions; the bulldog, however, was dead.

The deputies' conversation with Hopkins revealed that he had allegedly intentionally kicked the dog to death. No reason was given as to why he had done this, but then you recall the initial advisement of his anger issues.

Deputies took Hopkins into custody, and removed the deceased bulldog from the home. Hopkins is being held at the Madison County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

They shoudln't get the luxury of a lifetime sentence! - First offence should be 20 years community service, second - firing squad! These dear animals can't speak for themselves, so someone has to speak for them!

What is it about an "animal" that courts do not equate with a child or the elderly: living, breathing, DEPENDENT, trusting, loving!!! Yet, cannot initiate consequences for such heinous actions... dubbed ABUSE when on a human! Madison County, take a stand, set a precedence, help be a voice for the voiceless!!!!!!

I hope he feels like a real MAN for kicking a poor, defenseless animal to DEATH.  I hope he doesn't have children...or a wife....they could very well be NEXT!  The justice system better wake up and do something to these violent offenders!  An aminal, a child, a spouse, the elderly...it is a cycle...and it needs to be STOPPED

punishment should fit the crime...but I would settle for a sentence of life. For he took, a life.

This guy should be held without bail.  Research has shown that people who abuse animals will move on to abusing children and adults as well.  Most serial killers started with murdering animals.  He is sick and should be locked up for a long time.  RIP poor doggie.  You will never be hurt again.

I read there is another case in Godfrey involving misuse of a credit card and those people got $15,000 bond each. Yet kicking a living animal to death warrants a lesser amount??? Unbelievable!!!
