Opposition Mounts to Missouri's "Don't Say Gay" Bill for Schools

school bus rainbow flag.jpg
The gays! They're stealing our children!
A week after Republicans sponsors in the Missouri House referred it to committee, a bill that would severely restrict conversations about sexual orientation in public schools is under attack from a growing number of detractors including educators, doctors and fellow politicians.

HB 2051 would permit sexual orientation to be discussed only in "scientific instruction concerning human reproduction." School-sponsored clubs such as "gay-straight alliances" that deal with bullying and LGBT issues would be forbidden under the proposed law. So, too, would be conversations about homosexuality when discussing history, the arts, etc.

This week the Missouri National Educators Association, the state's largest teachers organization, blasted the bill, stating: "[L]egislation like the "Don't Say Gay" bill, proposed by Representative Steve Cookson shackles educator's efforts to prevent bullying in our public schools."

"Schools, above all, need to be safe havens for students - places where students can learn and realize their full potential," reiterated MNEA President Chris Guinther in a statement. "MNEA members realized a decade ago the need for a comprehensive program to counter the bullying culture in public schools in Missouri. That's when we invested in developing the No MOre Bullying program."

Yesterday the Missouri Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics also issued a public statement, saying:
This bill, which would prohibit any discussion of issues around sexual orientation in public schools, forbid teachers from addressing bullying based on sexual orientation, and likely ban gay-straight alliances, is clearly harmful to the best interests of the children of Missouri. All children and teenagers need to feel safe in their schools, and HB 2051 takes that assurance away from them. Rather, we would urge lawmakers to institute public policy that will help children feel safe in their schools and will ensure that their voice will always be heard.
Meanwhile, some 37 Democratic members of the House have called on the 20 Republican sponsors of the bill (including John Diehl of Town & Country and Tim Jones of Eureka) to withdraw their support of the measure.

"Public outrage has shown us that we are not doing enough to protect all students in schools. Students, teachers, administrators and those involved in the care of students all support being able to address sexual orientation and gender identity openly and compassionately," says State Rep. Stacey Newman (D-Richmond Heights).

Interesting that the President of St. Louis Gay Pride Parade, Ethan Barrett is diddling a high school boy in the news. Ethan Barrett is the President of St. Louis Pride Committee. I guess you can't say "gay" in schools but it's okay to troll around a high school parking lock looking for a teenage date.  Disgusting what this world is coming to.

Get real MO Legislators. As a taxpayer I'm appalled that you have nothing better to do with your time than introduce bills of this nature "don't say gay in schools" and that other members of the legislation actually supported it. You should be spending your time brainstorming to develop solutions to our States real problems. Like creating jobs to build a strong economy, so these students who will be part of the future work force have opportunities to become successful. Whats next on your personal agenda, no pizza on Tuesdays? This proposed bill is a perfect example of a waste of time and resources. The members supporting this bill have no credibility and lose my vote. Do everyone a favor and resign from public office. Just so the backwards thinking legislators are clear on my post, I don't support this bill.

So I don't usually want to feed the trolls, but I'm on this kick lately that I tell people what I think, so here goes.  Bullshirt and the other neo-nazi dude, how does it make you feel that by the time you die, you will have made no difference in the world?  That your extreme views will be pushed even further to the edges and the march forward for equal rights and fairness will continue.  Ahhhh it's a great feeling for me, and while you might frustrate people in an online forum, you will be frustrated your whole life because your views don't matter in the least.

Welcome to the Missouri Legislature.

Cue Deliverance banjo music as the lawmakers enter the chamber.......

Cue Ned Beatty squealing like a pig at the behest of some backwoodsman with no teeth....

I got to tell you, all you pro-homos are total shit eaters. I sure as hell would never join the military even if this country was attacked directly. I'd never defend you useless mouth breathers. I'd want to make sure you were all dead before I'd ever bend a finger for your freedom.

Regarding the animosity on the discussion, I simply go back to a little maxim on the Post-Dispatch discussion boards: Don't feed the trolls.

There are certain people who thrive on creating controversy They feel the more they can rile up people, then they're important.

In a sense, they're trolling (in the fishing sense) for controversy.

I never give them my attention.

I agree with Sorta Connected inasmuch I don't think this will make it out of committee.

What it is, however, is posturing. If they take hard line on gay issues, they win more of the ultra-conservative vote. You know there are people out there who are saying: "We don't want that lifestyle taught to our kids. Thank Jesus that someone is finally standing up."

The representatives know this doesn't have a chance. But demonizing young people is a pretty easy option when you're trying to buy votes.

37 words, one succinct statement, and as a direct result thousands of otherwords have been written.

Here are those 37 words.

HB 2051

170.370.Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, no instruction, material,

2 orextracurricular activity sponsored by a public school that discusses sexualorientation

3 otherthan in scientific instruction concerning human reproduction shall be providedin

4 anypublic school.

http://www.house.mo.gov/billtr...

The purpose of HB 2051 is to take a step away from filling theclassroom with social engineering experiments and to take a step toward greateremphasis on actual preparatory coursework.

Youthful angst has been around since time immemorial; no onegroup can claim the corner on, fragility, insecurity and a sense ofinferiority. It’s just that some are better at masking it than others.

Students have at their disposal professionally trained counselors, with whom they can discuss anxiety, bullying issues, etc.

Teachers are not trained counselors, nor are they surrogate parents, and those who cross that line without parental approval/involvement are indanger of exploiting vulnerable children.

The major expressed fear of HB 2051 is that outside ofscience classes, all discussion of sexual orientation, within GSA type clubswill be effectively banned.

The fear is completely unfounded, Federal Equal Accessguarantees student led GSA and like organizations will be able to operate asthey always have. The same way on campus Bible studies are allowed access.

Sec. 4071. Denial ofequal access prohibited

(a) “Restriction of limited open forum on basis of religious, political, philosophical, or other speech content prohibited”

http://www.justice.gov/crt/abo...

I hope this helps to allay some of the concerns that havearisen due to attempting to sort sense out of the sensationalism surrounding HB2051.

Hey Bullshirt, My grandfather saw first hand the attrocities committed at German concentration camps.  I know you wouldn't call a man who stormed the beach at Normandy a liar.

Bullshirt
Bullshirt

jewish math = 4.8 million jews in ALL of Europe pre-WWII. Approx. 2.5 to 3 Million fled Europe pre-war after the jewish boycott of Germany and subsequent declaration of war on Germany failed. 6 million killed in the holyhoax. Millions more emigrated to Shitzreeull and the US after WWII.

Bullshirt
Bullshirt

Wanna bet. My father was a WWII veteran. REAL ONES never talk about it. He's a fraud like you are. Besides no one says nothing happened. Most of the deaths occurred at the end of the war because the Allies were bombing the supply trains to the camps. Most died of starvation and typhus as a result of the Allied bombings NO ONE - I REPEAT NO ONE DIED IN GAS CHAMBERS - that's a complete and total fraud. But on top of that 28 Million people died in WWII from all over the world. The 64,000 jews were not the only deaths and were only a small amount of the 28 million. As long as we're on the topice what about the 24 million Christians the jewish Bolsheviks murdered during the Bolshevik Revolution. Why aren't school children taught about the past and current atrocities committed by jews?

Dear bullshit, I'm gonna have to call BS on your comment. I'm going to take a guess that you have never met a holocaust prisoner, Or a German who's family held their ground against what Hitler's forces did. And I'll guess you've never made a trip to Germany where those camps were. Well I have. Those that I have met were Middle school age when that stuff happened. the reason they didn't talk about it is ONE, because they were ashamed of the fact they were prisoners. After the war he went back to his home town there there was nothing for him, no family, no town nothing. He got sponsored by a relative who was already here in the USA.  TWO because although they German lady I met was against Hitler she unknowingly worked for him by sending buckets and shovels to those camps. You can continue to convince your self of what you want to believe. But those who lived it will thank the Allies. I've also met people who were children during the Korean Conflict, they too are thankful to the Allies for stepping in.  P.S. My personal experiences meeting these people go WAY  beyond anything you will find on Google.

OR

Do you think that just like Iraq, Libya, Syria...... that Germany after two decades of crushing poverty forced on them by jewish zionists and then Hitler comes along, kicks the jewish bankers out of Germany and returns Germany to prosperity in just a few short years after he dumps the jewish usury system which consequently caused the jewish zionists to declare war on Germany had anything to do with WWII?

Bullshirt
Bullshirt

You've got me this time. You've completely exposed my whole agenda and I'm stripped naked.

You're right. Hitler's Germany dedicated vast amounts of scarce war materials to transporting, disembarking, cataloguing, tatooing, shaving and showering (to eliminate lice) and then clothing jews so they could gas them and throw them in pits after doing all the previous.

Missouri legislators are putting there nose where it doesn’tbelong just like our Governor Bill Haslam here in TN has pushed his agenda ofdiscrimination throughout his brief tenure in office from shooting downNashville's anti-discrimination laws to creating the bill banning the use ofthe word "gay" in public schools. He's railroading civil liberties to the extent of making it illegal toupload a "potentially offensive image" to the internet thisyear.  I addressed our Governor's anticswith a visual commentary of him and his wife on my artist's blog athttp://dregstudiosart.blogspot...  Drop by and let me know how you feel aboutour rights being infringed upon.

Hey Chad, ay chance of cornering this country fried fuckstick Cookson to get his official take on his latest bullshit bill? Maybe you could find out if he is just a closeted gay himself or if he prefers bestiality. Not related but another good story would be to find out the background of the neo nazi knuckledragging shit eater who is doing such a stellar shitty job at trolling here when he is not chasing interracial teen couples around mall parking lots. I see this neanderthal buttfuck has now tried to hijack my screen name in a lame ass attempt to get people to think Im the disturbed one. Sure fuckface, no one else will recognize that youa re the one obsessed with anti joo bullshit and buttfucking.

Trying to "protect" your kid from learning that homosexuality exists is like trying to protect them from ethnicity or religion. While we're at it, let's not teach the Civil Rights movement anymore; by Bullshirt's logic, all races other than white are irrelevant because they don't make up the majority of the Western world.

Frumpy
Frumpy

Yeah but we don't allow them to acknowledge religion exists. Seeking morals and ethics is forbidden. You liberals demand that children be taught the worst that mankind and society has to offer not the best. So go ahead. This is why private schools and homeschooling are thriving. People want you filthy warped liberals to keep your gutter trash off our children. It's obvious most of you are public school (short bus) graduates. Public school is the lowest common denominator in AmeriKwan society. It's where all of you failures go to get programmed.

IT'S HIGH TIME AMERIKWA HAD A 2ND CIVIL WAR. THERE'S A WHOLE LOT OF YOU THAT HAVE JUST GOT TO GO AND YOUR WARPED PRINCIPLES CRUSHED IN TO THE MUD.

IT'S NOT THEIR JOB TO TEACH KIDS HOW TO USE A STRAP ON!

The REAL Fuck-suburbs
The REAL Fuck-suburbs

Yeah that's obviously your job since you never shut the fuck up about it. Fucking moron.

N D

Who said anything about strap-ons? The fact of the matter is, if we don't let children openly discuss real-life issues, they will find ways to look for it on their own. Would you rather your children be taught about the different types of people in the REAL WORLD, or tell them "You'll understand when you're older" and end up with them accidentally Googling images of things they should never see?

Whether or not you are gay-friendly, this bill at its bare-bones minimum is a violation of first amendment rights. This is an issue that needs to be discussed if a student is bullied, or if a group of LGBT students and allies want to come together and discuss current issues that affect their lives.

You cannot hide children from reality. They will eventually meet a gay person. Just like they will meet someone of a different ethnicity, race, religion. If you hold back children from reality, they will never learn to work with people different from they, and they will get nowhere in life. Plain and simple.

This is a sickening display of how the jews disguise themselves as "the champions of human rights, fighting against bigotry and hatred for the good of all". Meanwhile they're busy installing their Marxist/Communist idealogy.

You can damn well bet every one of the mentioned entities is fully controlled by them. The bill restricts discussing homosexuality and other orientations because A) it's not the public school systems job to teach this B) Other sexual orientations are completely irrelevant because they have zero to do with human reproduction which from a purely scientific perspective the public school system's only job is to teach the scientific aspects of human reproduction.

Only heterosexual relationships result in offspring. The other sexual orientations are morality issues and morality is not for the public school system to be teaching. But of course notice how the jews turn it on to a "bullying issue".
