Rep. Zachary Wyatt Comes Out at Press Conference Denouncing "Don't Say Gay" Bill

Missouri Representative Zachary Wyatt
Republican legislator Representative Zachary Wyatt held a press conference today in Jefferson City at which he and several of his colleagues officially denounced the much-ridiculed "Don't Say Gay" bill proposed by fellow Republican Rep. Steve Cookson. Wyatt then announced to the world that he is gay, and asked his fellow GOP'er to rescind the bill.

Look, coming out to family and friends is tough -- but deciding to take that very daunting step off the precipice at a press conference? That takes guts.

Wyatt, a veteran, had last week expressed concerns about the bill, citing his own experiences of being bullied as a child. Something Wyatt told his home district newspaper, the Kirksville Express, serves as a reminder that bullying occurs in adulthood as well.

"I've not been immune to it. I hear the comments, usually snide ones, directed at me. I am not the first or last Republican to come out. I have just gotten tired of the bigotry being shown on both sides of the aisle on gay issues. Being gay has never been a Republican or Democrat issue, and it never should be."

Well said.

A gay Republican is like an abused spouse that says with her husband even after he has killed one of her children. He is to be pitied, not respected. All Republicans share the responsibility for the epidemic of gay youth suicide that has been brought on by the republican party's war on gay children and gay families. A war on children that Representative Zachary chose to ignore for years. He's just another 'Uncle Tom' willing to sacrifice his own for a place in the big house. You disgust me Zachary Wyatt.  Run off to hawaii and hide your tail.  I hope your embarrassment for the damage you've done lasts a lifetime.

So, I saw an interview with this guy on the Lawrence O'Donnell Show last night. What a piece of work: He's finally stopped being in denial and willing to admit to the world that he is gay-but he loves being a hard core republican to his very soul in a party that despises him?

Talk about still being in major denial.

It's turns out that he's leaving the legislature and moving to Hawaii to study marine biology. So this bit of faux bravery is just a little "Oh by the way, I'm gay bye bye" as he walks out the door and moves from a very gay hostile place to a very gay friendly one.

Kind of a chicken shit move. I'd like to see him stay In Missouri and see how Christian his fellow conservative republicans would treat him.

He's against taxes and government spending. I wonder who paid for that world class marine biology program he's going to be studying at?

Why must some gays wear their sexuality like a chip on thier shoulder?

Sexual education should include the reproductive process and the consequences of unprotected sex, but when it comes to "sexual orientation" that is a discussion that should be left for the most part up to the parents in my humble opinion.  Why must this be taught? What one thing will this make better for our children? (See my solution below, lol)  And before anyone gets their panties in a wad I've got a brother who is gay and I've got numerous gay friends which I care for dearly. And no I don't EVER gay bash.

Probaby everyone reading this was never taught anythinig about homosexuality and "Lo and behold!" what do ya know...we made it!

If we CAN'T say the Pledge of Allegiance in schools because of the "G" (God) word yet it's ok teach about a different "G"(Gay )word  is it a wonder our country is SCREWED UP?

How do we solve it?  How about a clasess on DIVERSITY that helps kids understand we're ALL different in several ways!

Thanks for reading my opinion.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why people join a group or party that reviles their very existence.

Women used to drink and smoke during pregnancy...and low and behold...we made it.  Well..you and I did...perhaps others didn't fair so well.  Keeping it secret and hidden away makes it taboo.  And if homosexuals are going to be accepted and treated equal, you can't hide them away like a secret you don't want anyone to know about.

Does your brother know you're ashamed of him and wish no one knew about him? You probably don't even realize you're ashamed of him.

why must some Republicans wear their bigotry like a chip on their shoulders?  Who said anyone is trying to teach anything about homosexuality, except that homosexual kids deserve to be treated with equality and respect in their own schools.

Because gay people can still be assholes that are ok with cutting aid to the poor so their rich friends can get the solid gold toilet on their yacht and not have to settle for the gold plated one with the faux ruby encrusted seat.
